Артур Л. Херман (англ. Arthur L. Herman; род. 1956) — американский историк и автор книг попопулярной истории[англ.]. Старший научный сотрудникИнститута Хадсона[англ.][4].
Биография
[править |править код]Сын Артура Л. Хермана — исследователясанскрита, профессора философии вВисконсинском университете. Получил степеньбакалавра вУниверситете Миннесоты, степеньмагистра идоктора философии по историиУниверситета Джонса Хопкинса. Провёлсеместр вЭдинбургском университете вШотландии[4]. Диссертация была посвящена политическим взглядам французскихгугенотов начала 17-го века[5].
В конце 1980-х и начале 1990-х годов преподавал в университетеSewanee,Университете Джорджа Мейсона иДжорджтауне. Был основателем и координатором «Программы западного наследия» вСмитсоновском кампусе[6][7].
Книга Хермана ошотландском просвещении «How the Scots Invented the Modern World» (2001) стала бестселлером по версииNew York Times .
КнигаGandhi and Churchill: The Epic Rivalry that Destroyed an Empire and Forged Our Age, вошла в шортлистПулитцеровской премии 2009 года[8].
Семья
