Бриги (греч.Βρύγοι или Βρίγες) — народ, обитавший наБалканском полуострове. Часто отождествляется сфригийцами.
Этимология
[править |править код]На сегодняшний день нет окончательной теории о происхождении племенного имени Bryges. В1844 годуГерман Мюллер предположил, что название может быть связано с тем жеиндоевропейским корнем, что и внемецкомBerg (горы) иславянских языкахБрег (холмы, склоны, горы)[1], то есть фактически индоевропейское*bʰerǵʰ. В таком случае, племенное имя Bryges имело бы сходство с западноевропейскими племенными названиями, такими каккельтскиебриганты илигерманскиебургунды[2], исемантически мотивировалось бы некоторыми аспектами значения словавысокий, возвышенный, благородный, знаменитый[3].
