Young Irish immigrant Eilis Lace (Saoirse Ronan) navigates her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother's home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. One of my all-time favorite movies.

I’m a sucker for a good romance. I’m an even bigger sucker when it’s rooted in rich themes and concepts that shine throughout the film. Brooklyn‘s main romance is palpable and breathtakingly beautiful but it’s also cemented in something else.

["Brooklyn" is] s a gorgeous filmgoing experience that draws you into the life of its protagonist and her existential trysts as an immigrant and—before that—in her stifling social structure.

Your ordinary simplistically glimpsed yet meaningfully complex picture of elegant quality as written just as well with a beautiful score and excellent performances, particularly Saoirse Ronan at her definitive best that soothes new beginnings. (B+)

One of the most beautiful movies ever made. Colors, music, reticence punctuate throughout. I have watched the scene in the dining room of the church 7,351,212 times. The man sings, the actress recognizes brilliance amidst shuffles and anonymity, and then the director cuts to her chaperone listening to a radio. So goddamn brilliant.

This movie was moving with a wonderful performance from Ronan. An exploratory piece about the true meaning of "home" through the eyes of an Irish immigrant who desires a promising start in New York. An absolute must see. I was captivated the entire film.

Really neat story about a young Irish imigrant coming to America after WW2 who ends up at the center of a love triangle. The film shifts back and forth between NYC and Ireland. Saiorse Ronan was magnificent and the Academy Awards took notice. Definitely try to catch this one.
