Curious, should this language be named "SNOBOL" with "SNOBOL4" given as an implementation? Or is SNOBOL4 a distinct language in its own right? --IanOsgood 18:43, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

SNOBOL4 is a separate language. It's not SNOBOL 4 (or 4.0). Actually anything before SNOBOL4 is considered lousy -- even among die-hard SNOBOL fans.

SNOBOL5 development was started, but the language evolved eventually into Icon...rms_s4
