TheModular Driven Technologies (MDT) LSS chassis systemoffers Remington 700, Model Seven, Savage, Tikka T3 and Mossberg MVP shooters the ability to upgrade their rifle to a chassis system that uses a detachable magazine and AR15/M-16 M4 style stock and pistol grip.  I’ve had great luck with the MDT TAC21 which I posted about a few times; TAC21 Review: 3.5 Years Later, TAC21 Review (TAC21/TAC21LA) and Modular Driven Technologies TAC21 Chassis System Review (Initial Thoughts).

According to MDT:

The LSS chassis for Remington 700 and Remington Model 7 accepts collapsible AR-15 butt-stock and pistol grips. An adapter is available to mount fixed rifle stocks. This chassis offers the ability to customize you’re load-out by choosing from the wide variety of accessories available on the market.

The chassis uses AICS / AM style magazines in .223 and .308 caliber for Short Action, and .300WM and.338LM for Long Action. These magazines also accept other calibers with the same bolt face.

The LSS supports bolt-on MIL-STN-1913 accessory mounting rails on the bottom of the fore-end. Mounting holes are spaced for Magpul style L5 (11 slots) and L3 (7 slots) rails (1.600” / 3.200”). Maximum length of rail that can be used is 6.5″.

The LSS chassis is engineered to minimize warping and distortion. The rifle receiver only makes contact with the LSS chassis on it’s V shaped bedding and recoil lug area ensuring the best accuracy and repeatability. The fore-end’s generous clearance allows OEM standard and Bull barrels to free float up to 1″ Diameter.

For testing and evaluation of theMDT LSS, I mounted the Remington 700 barreled action that was used in 308 Winchester / 7.62x51mm NATO: Barrel Length versus Velocity (28″ to 16.5″). The barrel is a Shilen unturned blank I cut to 16.25″ in length andtapered to a DRAPA XM3 profile.

The rifle was built with the following parts from Brownells:

• Remington 700 short action receiver
• Shilen .308 1:10 match grade stainless steel unturned barrel blank
• Badger Maximized scope rail
• Spuhr ISMS scope mount
• Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56mm Mil/Mil Scope
• Vltor MIL-spec extension
• Magpul CTR stock
• Tangodown BG-17 grip

Installation of the LSS was simple.  Simply bolt the barreled action in place and install the stock and pistol grip.  Complete assembly took me less than fifteen minutes.  I elected to keep the rifle in a light configuration and use a collapsible stock with a BG-17 grip.  AHarris BR bipod finished off the rifle.

Shooting the LSS was a pleasure.  The magazine system worked well.  Ergonomics are comfortable and familiar to the AR15/M-16 M4 shooter.  Placement of my finger on the trigger was perfect with the BG-17 grip. Accuracy with the system was great, the first 5-shots I fired from the rifle formed a group .785″ (picture below)!

Here are my thoughts on theMDT LSS:

1. Low price- for less than $400 you can upgrade your rifle to a chassis system with a detachable magazine.
2. End user configurability- the ability to use a wide variety of AR15/M16 M4 stocks and grips allows the user the ability to configure his chassis for a wide range of applications.
3. Easy installation- installation is a snap.  You don’t need to remove the trigger from the rifle.  Simply remove it from its current stock and bolt it in.
