Gilgit Baltistan Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has been established under the Gilgit Baltistan Emergency Service Act, 2012 for professional management of emergencies such as road traffic accidents, building collapse, fires, hazardous material incidents and disasters. The establishment of Rescue 1122 in GB was inevitable due to the prone and vulnerable to Disaster risks from a range of hazards including avalanches, storms, droughts, earthquakes, floods, glaciers lake outbursts, landslides, land erosion.

Director General's Message
Gilgit Baltistan being prone and vulnerable to natural clamities. In recent years it is evident that Gilgit Baltistan has witnessed enormous increase of emergencies in the form natural and manmade disasters ranging from glof (glacial lake outburst flood) to flashfloods and RTCs (road traffic crashes) to water bourn emergencies. In order to meet the expectations of general public in case of any eventuality, GB Emergency Service pledges to provide the basic right of timely provision of emergency care without discrimination to the victims of emergencies. Further GB Emergency Service is taking steps towards resilient communities by imparting trainings to volunteers of various communities and organizing CERT (community emergency response team) teams to ensure a comprehensive response incase of any emergency.

Medical
This is the most important function of Rescue 1122 as over 97% emergency calls are related to Emergency Ambulance Service. Rescue ambulances response any medical emergences within 7min of response time.
Fire
After failure of repeated attempts to improve and modernize the existing municipal fire brigades, Rescue 1122 also accepted challenge of establishing first modern Fire Service in Pakistan.
Rescue
The main functions of Rescue teams include urban search & rescue in collapsed structures, rescue from depth & confined spaces or height and water rescue.
