    Robert Ray Hamilton (1851-1890) — of New York,New YorkCounty, N.Y.Born in New York,New YorkCounty, N.Y.,March18, 1851.Republican.Lawyer;member ofNew Yorkstate assembly from New York County 11th District, 1881, 1886-89;in July 1889, while staying in Atlantic City, he was caught in anationalscandal,after his wife, Eva, stabbed a nurse; she was arrested and tried; itcame out that Eva wasstillmarried to another man, that she had bought a baby for $10 andtold Hamilton he was the father, to induce him to marry her; whenthis waspublicized,Hamilton sued for divorce; as the case dragged on, he moved toWyoming to help a friend establish ahotel.While on ahuntingtrip, hedrownedwhile attempting to ford the Snake River, in Uinta County (part nowinTetonCounty), Wyo.,August23, 1890 (age39 years, 158days).Original interment somewhere; reinterment in 1892 atGreen-WoodCemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
