Monnett — ofCrawfordCounty, Ohio.Born in Kenton,HardinCounty, Ohio,March19, 1857.Lawyer;Ohiostate attorney general, 1896-1900; defeated in Democraticprimary, 1926; Democratic candidate forU.S.Representative from Ohio 12th District, 1910; in 1915, when theU.S. was still neutral in World War I, he was a committee chair in"Labor's National Peace Council," which advocated a weapons embargoagainst the countries then at war; the organization secretly receivedfunding fromGermanagents;indictedin December 1915, along withH.Robert Fowler,FrankBuchanan, and others, forrestraintof trade over the Peace Council's attempts tofomentstrikes in U.S. munitions plants;stoodtrial with seven co-defendants, but during the trial, the chargesagainst him were dismissed.Died in Columbus,FranklinCounty, Ohio.Interment at Monnett Chapel Graveyard.
