The migrainous brain during migraine head pain. Many studies have demonstrated that migraine attacks are associated with an increase of rCBF in mesencephalon and pons, which cannot be found in experimental head pain, indicating specificity for migraine attacks (842). After termination of the migraine attack with sumatriptan, these changes persisted, suggesting involvement in migraine generation or sustentation, rather than specifically trigeminally mediated pain.
