The jazz-infused revival of Gilbert and Sullivan'sThe Pirates of Penzance,titled Pirates!The Penzance Musical, ends its Broadway voyage at the Todd Haimes Theatre July 27. The limited engagement began previews April 4, and officially opened April 24. Read what critics had to sayhere.

Scott Ellis directs andWarren Carlyle choreographs. Tony winnerRupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) adapted W.S. Gilbert's original libretto, shifting the action to the legendary port city of New Orleans. While the score by Arthur Sullivan remains intact, a new set of orchestrations with Caribbean and French Quarter influences have been written byJoseph Joubert andDaryl Waters, with Joubert also serving as the production's music director.

The production starsRamin Karimloo andDavid Hyde Pierce as The Pirate King and as W.S. Gilbert and the Major General, respectively. They are joined byJinkx Monsoon as Ruth,Nicholas Barasch as Frederic,Preston Truman Boyd as Sullivan/Police Sergeant, andSamantha Williams as Mabel Stanley.

They are supported byKelly Belarmino,Cicily Daniels,Ninako Donville,Rick Faugno,Tommy Gedrich,Alex Gibson,Afra Hines,Ryo Kamibayashi,Tatiana Lofton,Nathan Lucrezio,Shina Ann Morris, Tytone L. Robinson, Bronwyn Tarboton, andRichard Riaz Yoder. Swings Maria Briggs, Alex Dorf, Niani Feelings, and Cooper Stanton round out the company.

The production also has scenic design by Tony winnerDavid Rockwell (She Loves Me, Doubt), costume design by Tony winnerLinda Cho (The Great Gatsby, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder), lighting design by Tony winnerDonald Holder (South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The Lion King), sound design by Tony nomineeMikaal Sulaiman (Macbeth, An Enemy of the People, Doubt), hair and wig design byCharles G.
