Notes toPhilosophy of Liberation

1. If we take it forgranted that one of the measures of the depth and extent of thereception of any philosophical movement is the amount of dissertationswritten on it, then by this criteria the philosophy of liberation hasbeen the most studied Latin American philosophical current. A quicksearch in the Philosopher’s Index will yield several dozens ofdissertation (Solîs Bello Ortiz et al. 2009: 411, note 24).

2. Beorlegui refers to fivematrixes, but he neglects one that was also clearly important, namelythe sociology of liberation, without a doubt another generative matrixfor liberation philosophy. Our presentation, in turn, elides one thathe foregrounds, which is redundant. Thus, the discussion here deviatesslightly from his characterization.
