Así, se vinculan dos tendencias y sus implicaciones: cómo el resentimiento genera la fijación de una identidad amenazadora que lleva a la estigmatización de un otro, a la vez como una forma de rechazo de la contingencia histórica; y cómo el vínculo del resentimiento con la temporalidad, en particular con un tipo de memoria, (...) produce una incapacidad para asumirla creadoramente. Esta reflexión deja abiertas preguntas sobre cómo los cuerpos afectados por el resen timiento pueden revertirlo y dar lugar a formas más vitales de relación con el mundo. ABSTRACT On the basis of selected experiences from the present, the article revisits the Nietzschean interpretation of resentment in order to explore the complexity and ambivalence of the phenomenon and shed light on current issues. To that effect, it connects two tendencies and their implications: the manner in which resentment generates the fixation of a threatening identity that leads to the stigmatization of an other, which, at the same time, involves a rejection of historical contingency; and the manner in which the link between resentment and temporality, in particular with a type of memory, produces an incapacity to assume it creatively. This reflec tion leaves questions open regarding how bodies affected by resentment can twist it around and give rise to more vital forms of relating to the world. (shrink)No categories
- The Moral Compass and Mortal Slumber: Divine and Human Reason in the Bibles Moralisées.AntoniaMartínez Ruipérez -2018 -Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes 81 (1):1-34.In the thirteenth-century Bibles moralisées there appears a new iconographical type in which God the Father, and figures depicted in moralising illustrations, are shown with a compass. This article argues that these images throw light on the medieval concept of reason and its role in the Divine Economy. In these French Capetian Bibles, the compass is the symbol of divine or human reason, depending on the context where it occurs. When depicted in the scene of Creation in the frontispieces, the (...) compass is the instrument of Christ-Logos as Divine Reason, used to impose God’s rational order on formless matter, but also to initiate the Divine Economy. The compass is depicted again, in the same sense, at the beginning of the New Testament, as a ‘dynamic sign’ which links the start of God’s plan for humankind salvation during Creation with the re-enactment of the Divine Economy through the Incarnation. When a compass occurs elsewhere, in a moralised image for a biblical story which takes place in the earthly realm, the instrument becomes the tool used by human reason to discern between good and evil. The analysis which leads to this interpretation is borne out by an examination of related themes in the Bibles moralisées: those of the sleep of mortal reason, and of the endurance of Divine Reason as a guide to true knowledge. La interpretación narrativa es un camino viable para el pensar cuando éste trata de dar cuenta de formas problemáticas de arte, como el arte actual, ya que tiene la ventaja de trabajar con el contexto de la obra en vez de tratarla aisladamente. Una obra es lo que es gracias a sus conexiones con (...) obras anteriores y posteriores. La narratividad es probablemente el mejor modo de establecer, explicar y comprender estas conexiones. El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar que puede haber un tipo de interpretación que configure la identidad narrativa de la obra y que esta identidad no se restringe a la identificación, sino que crea una identidad dinámica para la obra. - Discipline and Invention: the Fete in France: XV-XVIII Century.Roger Chartier &MariaAntonia Uzielli -1980 -Diogenes 28 (110):44-65.Any historical reflection of the fête (or feast) must depart from the observation of its actual conditions of subsistence, in order to understand the veritable “festive explosion” that has marked historical production this last decade. Although it is not specifically historical, the emergence of the fête (and in particular of the ancient feast) as a preferential object of study, leads one in effect to wonder about the reasons that have brought about that, in a given moment, an entire scientific class, (...) in this case the French historians, has felt attracted by a theme which until then was treated only in folklorist collections. Seemingly, three reasons, that pertain as much to the recognized function of the historical discipline as to its internal evolution, may be cited. It is clear, above all, that the increased research into the ancient feast constitutes a sort of compensation, as a means of understanding, to the disappearing system of civilization in which the fête had, or rather, is considered as having had, a central role. The historical analysis is therefore charged to explain, in its idiom and with its technique, the nostalgia evoked by a present which has eliminated the fête defined as an act of community participation. On these grounds it then becomes possible to rediscover one of the major functions assigned—implicitly or explicitly—to history today: to restore to the sphere of knowledge a vanished world of which contemporary society feels the heritage, but as an unfaithful heir. That the operation of understanding is difficult to separate from the fabrication of an imaginary past collectively desired, is, in the end, insignificant, unless it is meant to underline those themes that, by being the most neglected by our present age, become the most symptomatic of a world we have lost. The chapter discusses the question of animality and its place in the current map of reality and contemporary discourses. The idea is to view animals beyond the narrow categories of “human” and “animal”. This is not just a biological issue but also touches on modes of becoming animal, appearing animal, differing animal, and opposing animal. Animals are a significant part (...) of our culture and are subject to ethical, moral, and political discussions. It is worth considering philosophically where the ethical, moral, and political demands stem from. The question about ourselves was once central, and philosophical anthropology occupied a fair amount of reflection. However, with posthumanism and transhumanism, the question of what we are is no longer the centrepiece of the larger question of being. The idea of being human has lost its universal and unified meaning. Instead, it has become defined by history, gender, culture, ethnicity, tradition, religion, language, and even hypothetical possibilities of evolving into different species. It delves into the intricate connection between urbanisation and the natural world, focusing on the relationship between animals and their habitats. The text explains that all living things have a place as part of their ontological determination. For animals, this place is their territory. In cities, natural habitat is often confined to parks or gardens due to urban development. There (...) is a strong relationship of affectation and conformation between bodies and cities. Ultimately, the city is seen as a circumstance that has seized much of nature’s territory, leaving animals to resist and seek refuge in the city’s crevices. According to the chapter, returning to nature cannot be accomplished simply through a weekend trip or romanticising the idea of wild nature. Instead, it requires a negotiation between urban and natural environments. It also explores the relationship between humanity and animality and suggests that incorporating storytelling and understanding other life forms can lead to different ontological questions. The chapter calls for much thought to coexist within shared, negotiated territories. Ultimately, it frames the relationship between humanity and animality as an ontological and political issue.
