Dostoevsky -Strakhov - Tolstoy: Toward to the Story of One Conflict.Svetlana M. Klimova -2021 -RUDN Journal of Philosophy 25 (1):72-88.
The well-known epistolary conflict between Fyodor Dostoevsky and NikolaiStrakhov over the latter's slander of the great Russian writer's terrible sins is considered in the article from the point of view a philosophical anthropology and relations not two but between three participants of this story: Dostoyevsky,Strakhov and Tolstoy. This conflict is presented through anthropological, existential, and class prisms of description, based on a reconstruction ofStrakhov's concept of man as a controversial, dual, and undefined being reflected (...) in Dostoevsky's work. A direct relation between the definition of the dual nature of man in the works ofStrakhov and Dostoevsky and interpersonal conflicts within "boundary forms of literature" is substantiated. Special attention is paid to the class of seminarians, the object of Dostoevsky's targeted criticism. He saw their worst characteristics inStrakhov personality. Tolstoy plays the role of an arbiter in this controversy, assessing the situation both in terms of literary, existential and religious thought. In the course of his examination of this conflict, his unexpected closeness to Dostoevsky was discovered in regard to assessment ofStrakhov. The point of their coincidence was the "pink Christianity" of the writers, who justify man in a quite similar manner, in terms of their religious consciousness. (shrink)

Bridging psychology and game theory yields interdependence theory.Paul A. M. Van Lange &Marcello Gallucci -2003 -Behavioral and Brain Sciences 26 (2):177-178.
This commentary focuses on the parts of psychological game theory dealing with preference, as illustrated by team reasoning, and supports the conclusion that these theoretical notions do not contribute above and beyond existing theory in understanding social interaction. In particular, psychology and games are already bridged by a comprehensive, formal, and inherently psychological theory, interdependence theory (Kelley & Thibaut 1978; Kelley et al. 2003), which has been demonstrated to account for a wide variety of social interaction phenomena.

Group theory and solutions of classical field theories with polynomial nonlinearities.A. M. Grundland,J. A. Tuszyński &P. Winternitz -1993 -Foundations of Physics 23 (4):633-665.
In this paper we investigate a number of analytical solutions to the polynomial class of nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations in multidimensional spacetime. This is done in the context of classical φ4 and φ6 field theory, the former with and without the inclusion of an external force field conjugate to φ. Both massive (m≠0) and massless (m=0) cases are considered, as well as tachyonic solutions allowed (v>c). We first present a complete set of translationally invariant solutions for the φ4 model and demonstrate (...) the role of external force fields in altering the form of these solutions. Next, spherically symmetric solutions are discussed in both φ4 and φ6 cases since they provide the most realistic models of elementary particles. (shrink)

Lagos-based Raypower Radio is one of the very few stations in Nigeria that is offering broadcasts in Nigerian local languages and tribal dialects. Due to the pre-dominant use of English in the education system native Nigerian languages tend to be considered as inferior, especially among social circles of higher education and wealthy background. This research attempts to analyse the influence of parental attitude towards tribal dialects as a barrier or motivational source for Nigerian youth in terms of the use and (...) acquisition of local languages and the reception of radio stations offering local content. Peer Review and Beyond: Towards a Dialogical Approach of Quality in Ethics Support.Guy A. M. Widdershoven,Bert Molewijk &Suzanne Metselaar -2018 - In Stuart G. Finder & Mark J. Bliton,Peer Review, Peer Education, and Modeling in the Practice of Clinical Ethics Consultation: The Zadeh Project. Cham: Springer Verlag. pp. 193-203.
In this chapter we reflect on the relevance of peer review for assessing the quality of clinical ethics consultation. We contend that peer review in the narrative form as presented in this book provides an alternative to the formal clinical ethics consultation review procedures typically found in the clinical ethics literature. We elaborate on peer review as a reflection on clinical ethics consultation practice, the elements which a story should contain in order to provide a basis for peer review, and (...) the differences between the assessments of the peer reviewers. We argue that a narrative approach to assessing the quality of ethics consultation can be further developed by allowing all stakeholders who are involved in the clinical ethics practice to actively take part in the evaluation process, following a “responsive evaluation” approach. An example of this is creating a Community of Practice, the aim of which is to foster a joint learning process of all parties involved. At the end of this chapter, we draw conclusions on peer review as a dialogical tool for evaluating quality of clinical ethics consultation. (shrink)

    The Social Psychology of Morality.Joseph P. Forgas,Lee J. Jussim &Paul A. M. Van Lange (eds.) -2016 - New York: Psychology Press.
Ever since Plato’s ‘Republic’ was written over two thousand years ago, one of the main concerns of social philosophy and later empirical social science was to understand the moral nature of human beings. The faculty to think and act in terms of overarching moral values is as much a defining hallmark of our species as is our intelligence, so _homo moralis_ is no less an appropriate term to describe humans as _homo sapiens_. This volume makes a case for the pivotal (...) role of social psychology as the core discipline for studying morality. The book is divided into four parts. First, the role of social psychological processes in moral values and judgments is discussed, followed by an analysis of the role of morality in interpersonal processes. The sometimes paradoxical, ironic effects of moral beliefs are described next, and in the final section the role of morality in collective and group behavior is considered. This book will be of interest to students and researchers in the social and behavioral sciences concerned with moral behavior, as well as professionals and practitioners in clinical, counseling, organizational, marketing and educational psychology where issues of ethics and morality are of importance. Bringing Science to the Public: Ferdinand von Mueller and Botanical Education in Victorian Victoria.A. M. Lucas,Sara Maroske &Andrew Brown-May -2006 -Annals of Science 63 (1):25-57.
Summary Ferdinand von Mueller (1825–96), the German-born Government Botanist of Victoria from 1853 until his death, and concurrently Director of the Melbourne Botanic Garden from 1857 until 1873, was a prolific systematic botanist, but also heavily involved in public educational activities. He conceived of the Garden as an educative place of recreation, but ultimately lost control over it. His loss did not stop his popular writing and lecturing, especially in areas related to the application of botany in horticulture, agriculture, and (...) forestry. The structure of his introductory school text—very different from the intensely logical grammar-like botany texts of the period—owed much to his political masters, but it is characterized by careful attention to language and locality. Mueller's work represents a consistent and pervasive example of attention to the ‘public understanding of science’ that resonates with the concerns of early twenty-first-century funders of scientific research. Ethics support in institutional elderly care: a review of the literature. [REVIEW]Sandra van der Dam,Bert Molewijk,Guy A. M. Widdershoven &Tineke A. Abma -2014 -Journal of Medical Ethics 40 (9):625-631.
Clinical ethics support mechanisms in healthcare are increasing but little is known about the specific developments in elderly care. The aim of this paper is to present a systematic literature review on the characteristics of existing ethics support mechanisms in institutional elderly care. A review was performed in three electronic databases . Sixty papers were included in the review. The ethics support mechanisms are classified in four categories: ‘institutional bodies’ ; ‘frameworks’ ; ‘educational programmes and moral case deliberation’; and ‘written (...) documents and policies’. For each category the goals, methods and ways of organising are described. Ethics support often serves several goals and can be targeted at various levels: case, professional or organisation. Over the past decades a number of changes have taken place in the development of ethics support in elderly care. Considering the goals, ethics support has become more outreaching and proactive, aiming to qualify professionals to integrate ethics in daily care processes. The approaches in clinical ethics support have become more diverse, more focused on everyday ethical issues and better adapted to the concrete learning style of the nursing staff. Ethics support has become less centrally organised and more connected to local contexts and primary process within the organisation. (shrink)

Behavior of a magnetic dipole freely floating on water surface.M. A. &H. Kh -manuscript
In this paper, the authors have detected a new effect in the area of geomagnetism, related to the behavior of a magnetic dipole freely floating on water surface. An experiment is described in the present paper in which a magnetic dipole fixed upon a float placed on non- magnetized water surface undergoes displacement along with reorientation caused by fine structure of the earth's magnetic field. This fact can probably be explained by secular decrease of the earth's major dipole moment. Further, (...) a detailed study of the phenomenon may create interesting premises for its practical use, particularly for the analysis of fine structure of geomagnetic field and its time-dependent anomalies. A strange behavior of some sea fish species prior to strong earthquakes may be explained if the fish are assumed as 'live magnetic dipoles'. (shrink)

Right understanding to help others.A. M. Patel -2015 - Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India: Mr. Ajit C. Patel, Dada Bhagwan Aradhana Trust. Edited by Niruben Amin.
Those seeking to lead a spiritual life, or just wondering how to become more spiritual may become inspired towards serving others, or giving Seva (selfless service). To learn how to serve God one might emulate spiritual people, study with spiritual teachers, or look to different types of religion and different types of yoga. But finding spiritual guidance on the topic of Seva is not always easy. One might be left wondering, “Is service to humanity a higher means to make a (...) donation – or should I simply donate to charity? What are the best charities to donate to, or to serve?” Or one might ask, “How does Seva support my spiritual development? Is there spiritual power and spiritual transformation to be gained through it?” In the book “Right Understanding To Help Others: Benevolence”, Gnani Purush (embodiment of Self knowledge) Dada Bhagwan offers precise understanding about people helping others and the many benefits Seva has upon one’s spiritual growth. Dadashri explains that happiness begins from the moment one begins serving others and that, in offering Seva, one’s life will never lack for material comfort and happiness. Among the myriad of spiritual books available today, “Right Understanding To Help Others: Benevolence” is a unique and invaluable resource. (shrink)

Whatever has happened is justice.A. M. Patel -2014 - Gujarat, India: Dada Bhagwan Aradhana Trust. Edited by Niruben Amin.
If you say that whatever happens is justice, you will remain without any questions. People however, are out to look for justice and desire liberation as well. This is a contradiction. You cannot have both. Where questions end, liberation begins. In this science of ours, called Akram Vignan (the step less knowledge of the self) there remains no questions. That is why it is so easy for people to follow. Param Pujya Dadashri (master of spiritual science) has given the extraordinary (...) discovery to the world that there is never any injustice in this world. Whatever has happened is justice. Nature has never deviated from justice. Nature is not a person or a God who is under any influences. Nature means scientific circumstantial evidences. So many circumstances have to be right for a task to be accomplished. (shrink)

"Aptavani 1" is the first in a series of spiritual books titled "Aptavani". In this series, Gnani Purush (embodiment of Self knowledge) Dada Bhagwan addresses age-old unanswered questions of spiritual seekers. Dadashri offers in-depth answers to questions such as: "Who am I?", "What is our purpose in life?", "What is the nature of the journey of souls?", "Why do bad things happen to good people?", "What does karma mean?", "How was the world created?", "Who is the 'Doer' (ego definition)?"Dadashri also (...) provides spiritual expositions on the topics of: "What is religion?", "How to find God?", "What is the difference in religion vs. spirituality?", "How do you define spirituality?", "How can I attain knowledge of Self?", "How can I experience my own pure Soul?", and "What is liberation?"Ultimately, Dadashri describes how the knowledge of Self is the final goal of all seeking. Without Self knowledge, one cannot attain ultimate liberation, or moksha. (shrink)

Money: the world of money according to Gnani Purush Dadashri.A. M. Patel -2014 - Gujarat, India: Dada Bhagwan Aradhana Trust. Edited by Niruben Amin.
Among the world richest people, who are the richest people in the world? Those with a spiritual code of ethics (highest ethics and values, and ethical behavior). In the book “The Science of Money”, Gnani Purush (embodiment of Self knowledge) Dada Bhagwan explains the spiritual science behind Money and it’s use. He describes that one’s ethical values create a spiritual balance sheet, influencing one’s financial balance sheet. Dadashri offers in-depth answers to questions such as: “How would a spiritual teacher define (...) business ethics? “In financial dealings, which moral ethics are to be followed?” “Among the ways to get rich, is it true that the simplest means is by giving away money?” “Why is it helpful to donate to charity, and what are the reasons to make an anonymous donation?” “Of the many charities to donate to, what are the best charities to donate to?” Among the myriad of spiritual books available today, it is rare to find spiritual guidance related to the use of money. For learning the hidden principles that govern one’s ultimate balance sheet (what one leaves behind or takes with him when he dies), this book will prove an invaluable resource. (shrink)

Non-violence (Ahimsa): as expounded by the Gnani Purush Dada Bhagwan.A. M. Patel -2014 - Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India: Mr. Ajit C. Patel, Dada Bhagwan Aradhana Trust. Edited by Niruben Amin.
Those seeking to lead a spiritual life may become curious as to what is ahimsa (non violence), and inspired to practice it. But understanding how to live in non violence is not as simple as it seems, and practicing no violence in daily life can quickly become bewildering. To someone just beginning to cultivate non-violence, daily interactions might even begin to feel like the very definition of conflict! In the book “Non-Violence”, Gnani Purush (embodiment of Self knowledge) Dada Bhagwan offers (...) key understanding on how to define ahimsa (non violence) and how to avoid kashaya (internal self harm). Dadashri explains that kashaya is at the root of self harming, unhealthy relationships, and violence. Here, he teaches how to live in peace, offering profound knowledge of non violent communication, conflict resolution skills, and conflict management strategies. His spiritual teaching on how to resolve conflict - or to avoid it altogether - is offered in the context of common and everyday relationship challenges. For anyone with the intent to practice non-violence - whether wondering how to deal with negative people and difficult people, how to handle conflict, or seeking skills to face internal struggle amidst life problems - this book will prove an invaluable resource.
