Abstract

Nostalgia as one of the complex emotions has been challengedover the past few decades due to its psychological and physiological functions. The present experiment investigates the effect of recalling nostalgic memorieson amelioration of homeostatic and health state of people with cardiovasculardisease. Method: The participants were 30 patients who were hospitalized forangiography procedure. The research was based on an experimental design withrandomized and post-test groups. The instruments used included a thermometerwith ° C, a checkout manipulation test, a blood pressure monitor, an icecontainer and a manual timer, a pain intensity perception scale and Batcho’snostalgia questionnaire. Results: The results showed that there was a significantdifference between the two groups in perceived temperature, the resilience in theface of pain, and the perceived pain. The experimental group perceived highertemperature and showed greater resilience in the face of pain and also lower painintensity was reported. There was no significant difference in blood pressure betweenthe two groups. Conclusion: The results of this study provide significantevidence for the embodiment emotions hypothesis and positive role of Nostalgiain psychological and physiological homeostatic. Further practical implicationsof results and suggestions for future research were considered.
