Michael is a community pharmacist practicing in the Midlands and South Yorkshire with more than 20 years’ experience advising on medicines and medical conditions. He has a strong background in healthcare training, having produced and delivered training courses for pharmacy teams and staff of residential care settings, including nurses. He has also contributed to pharmacy advisory boards for the management of low acuity conditions in the community.

Michael spent 6 years as an information pharmacist at head-office for a large-multiple pharmacy chain. He provided guidance and advice to pharmacists on clinical, professional and regulatory issues, developing policies and procedures and supporting delivery of clinical services.

During the Covid-19 pandemic Michael participated in a pharmacy-based vaccination clinic, delivering over 4000 Covid vaccinations to the local population during the initial roll-out. He also returned to community practice where he is currently preparing for theNHS Pharmacy First service.

Atenolol belongs to the group of medicines known as beta-blockers. You are likely to have been prescribed it because you have high blood pressure, or angina chest pain, or a fast uneven heartbeat. Treatment is usually long-term. Continue to take your doses regularly. The most common side-effects are feeling tired, cold hands and feet, a slow heartbeat, and stomach upset. These are usually mild.

Make sure you tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin. Amoxicillin is a type of penicillin - do not take it if you are allergic to penicillin. Space your doses out evenly over the day and complete the full course of the antibiotic, even if you feel your infection has cleared up. You can take amoxicillin either before or after food. If you have an allergic reaction (such as any swelling around your mouth, any difficulties breathing or a red rash) contact a doctor for advice straightaway.

Take a dose four times a day. Space out the doses evenly throughout the day. Keep taking the capsules until the course is finished (unless your doctor tells you to stop sooner). Drink plenty of fluids if you have diarrhoea. Help prevent the spread of infection to others by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and hot water.

Make sure you tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin. Ampicillin is a type of penicillin - do not take it if you are allergic to penicillin. Space your doses out evenly over the day and complete the full course of the antibiotic, even if you feel your infection has cleared up. You should take ampicillin when your stomach is empty of food (so an hour before you eat, or two hours afterwards). If you have an allergic reaction (such as any swelling around your mouth, any difficulties breathing or a red rash) contact a doctor straightaway.
