Abstract

An article of footwear (10) comprises a pressure sensor (16) arranged in the sole structure. The sensor comprises elongated pressure-sensing cells (18), each of which has an axis of main extension (A). Each cell comprises a first (20) and a second (22) carrier film, which are attached to one another by a spacer film (24) having an elongated opening (26) oriented along the axis of main extension, as well as a first (28) and a second (30) electrode on the first and the second carrier film, respectively. The electrodes are arranged in facing relationship with each other, so that a contact area between them increases with increasing pressure. An electrically insulating layer (32) is arranged within the opening. That layer's shape is such that it locally prevents direct contact between the electrodes where the insulating layer is present and enables the direct contact where it is absent. The shape is constant or repetitionary along the axis of main extension of the cell.
