Abstract

A deicing system and associated method is disclosed and includes a support (10) having an aircraft entrance and exit through which an aircraft (18) advances for deicing. A compressed air deicing unit including a positive displacement compressor (40), a manifold (44) and plurality of deicer air jet nozzles (50) that extend across the path of an advancing aircraft for receiving the compressed air from the manifold (44) and discharging the compressed air from the nozzle (50) onto the surface of an aircraft (18). A plurality of infrared heating units (24) are positioned between the entrance and exit ends of the support structure for emitting infrared radiation onto the surface of an aircraft (18) for enhanced deicing.
