COMBINED FILTERING AND HEATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 25, 1909.
Patented Feb. 21, 1911.
Serial No. 504,250.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known-that I, OLYMPIO F. Gaarna'rr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Filtering and Heating Devices, of which the follow ing is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined filtering and heating devices.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the device as attached to a dental chair.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, whereby either hotor cold filtered water may be instantly supplied to the patient, or for any other purpose.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of means whereby the device may be readily attached to a chair or other support.
Finally, the object of the invention is to produce a device of the character described that will be compact and practical, one that will be easily attached to the chair, and one that will be inexpensively produced and easily kept in repair.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and operation, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein the figure is a side elevation of the attachment secured to the arm of a chair and having a portion of the heater as well as a portion of the filter broken away to show the operative mechanism within.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 refers to the arm of the chair to which the attachn'ient is socured, and 2 designates a filter which is attached to said arm by means of a tubular hinge member 3. Water is introduced into this filter through the main supply pipe, 5, which has a union with the hinge member, 3, through which the water passes into the filter, and is forced through filtering stone 6, by the water pressure, and thereby filtered. My improved heating attachment is also connected with the filter by means of a con necting elbow, 10. This attachment includes a double pipe arrangement, the pipes 11 and 12 of which unite at one end and connect with elbow 10 and also unite at their other end in theoutlet pipe 13. The unions connecting the heating attachment to its connecting pipes are of such a nature that said attachment may be readily removed and replaced.
Pipe 12 carries an electric heater, 14, of any desirable type which is provided with the usual connecting wires, 15. These wires have a suitable connection with agenerator (not shown). This heater attachment is provided with suitable valves, 16 and 17, operable in any desired manner, as by the ordinary thumb buttons. By means of this arrangement, when hot water is wanted the valve 16 may be opened and the water will be discharged from the filter through pipe 12, which carries the heater, and pass throughpipe 13 into receptacle 18, carried by receptacle holder 19 and when cold water is desired, valve 17 may be opened and the water will pass throughpipes 11 and 13 into said receptacle.
While I have shown this specific form of the attachment, which is my preferred form, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact form shown, but desire to secure protection upon such modifications thereof as may fall within the scope of the invention.
An attachment, constructed in accordance with the foregoing description and the drawing accompanying the same, will be found to be compact, practical, and very convenient for the purposes for which it is designed.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described the combination with an arm support of a combined filtering and heating device including a hinge supporting member, a filter carried thereby, a supply pipe for supplying the filter through the hinge member, a plurality of liquid conductors uniting in common supply and discharge pipes for relieving said filter and a heating device carried by one of said conductors.
 2. In a device of the character described the combination with an arm support of a combined filtering and heating device includin a hinge supporting member, a filter carried thereby, a supply pipe for supplying the filter through the hinge member, a. plurality of liquid conductors unitin in common supply and discharge pipes fbr relieving said filter, means of controlling the flow of liquid through said conductors and a heating device carried by one of said conductors.
 3. In a device of the character described a combined filtering and heating device including a supporting member and a filter carried thereby, a supply pipe discharging into said filter through said supporting member, a relief pipe for said filter, a plurality of liquid conductors which receive the liquid from said relief pipe and conduct the same to a common dischar e, and a heating apparatus carried by one 0t said conductors;
E1111 :1 device of the character described a combined filtering and heating device including a supporting member and a filter carried thereby, a supply pipe discharging into said filter through said supporting member, a relief pipe for said filter, a plurality of liquid conductors which receive the liquid from said relief pipe and conduct the same to a common discharge, a heating a pparatus carried by one of said conductors and means for controlling the flow of liquid through said conductors,
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand this the 21st day of June, A; D.
