GILMER, TEXA-s,
Letters Patent No. 93,228, dated August 3, 1869,
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, 1 O. HIGHER, of Gihnor, Up-
shur county, Texas, have invented a new and improved Combined Lamp and Candlestick; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved device, showing it provided with a lamp-burner.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same, showing it converted into a candlestick.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates tothat class of lamps which are provided with tubes adapted to receive a candleholder and burner; and
It consists in the construction of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
The burner can be supported on the tube B by means of the plug D, which retains it in place.
This plug, being of conical form, fits almost any kind of aperture, and the burner can, in case the main reservoir breaks or is lost, be readily fitted to another reservoir or receptacle, even to an ordinary bottle.
The cone will always close tight, without the use of screws or other fastening-devices. It can be removed, and the cone F put in its place, as in fig. 2, when a candle is to be supported on the device.
Another advantage of the long neck B is, that the light is better spread. than where the thick reservoir is directly under the burner.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The oil-reservoir A, provided with the long tubular neck B, when the latter is adapted to receive, in the manner described, either the conical candle-holder F or the burner G, conical case D, and long wick-tube E, as herein set forth, for the purpose specified.
