Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filedma 15, 1909. Serial No, 496,179.
To all whom it may concern: I
Bait known that I, FREDERICK MESINGER, a cltizen of theUnited States, residing at New York city, Bronx, county and State of New .York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rebound-Checking Devices for. Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.
i This invention relates to a rebound check ing device for automobiles which\ may be readily applied and effectively inhibits the rebounding impetus imparted by the springs to the body when traveling o'ver uneven ground.
" .In the accompanying drawing: Figure; 1 is afront view, partly in section, of my improved rebound/checking device; Fig. 2 a
side" View thereof; 3 a perspective view by olt 15. Tliisbolt passes' tltreugh alined perforations} 16bfgalam 13 and through a longitudinal slot-11 0f eep'er .14. The in-, ner edge of keeper ridgie-bent upward, as at 18,- to constitute -an--.abutm ent foreye 11. The 'outerendof keeper 14 extends laterallybeyond clamp. 13 and has an upwardly proectingflange 19 which engages the .web of the U-shaped body-frame 20, the bottom flange of which entersclamp 13 abovekeeper 14. The device is' applied by first adjusting I I ofwhich 'is rece1ved akee r 14"Wlli6l1 isconnected 'to.clamp13 keeper 14 to frame 20 slippingclamp 13, carryingspring 10, over the keeper-andframe 20, and then connecting the parts bybolt 15. Thelower eye 12 of spring 10 :is engaged by a doubledstrap 21 which is also passed over theaxle 22 of the running gear carrying thebody springs 23. The ends ofstrap 21 are adjustably connected to each other by abuckle 24 anderforations 25. By means of this connection, the combined length of spring and strap may be pro )erly adjusted to correspondto the distance betweenframe 20 andaxle 22.
It will be seen that my improved checking device may be readily fitted to the autom0- bile, and that it will serve to eflectively inhibit any rebounding action of the bodysprings.
I claim: I. A device of the character described, comprisinga coiled spring having an eye, a.
2. A device ,of the character described, 4
comprising a coiled'spring having upper and lower eyes, a LB-shaped clamp engaging the upper eye, a keeper extending into the clamp, a bolt engagingthe clamp and keeper, a strap engaging the lower eye, and means for ad .justably connecting the ends of the strap.-
