D. HUNSBERGER. WALL HYDRANT. APPLICATION FILED APR. 15, 1908'.
Patented June 29, 1909.
vil WE WWW UNITED STATES PATENT oniucn.
DANIEL HUNSBERGER, OF ROYERSI ORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
WALL-HYDRANI.
No. 926,190. Specification of Application filed April 16,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL Hunsnnnenn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Royersford, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVall-Hydrants, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in wall hydrants, and the object is primarily for the attachment of a hose for washing and sprinkling, whereby the water can be obtained from the outside without the necessity of entering the house.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 is a detail.
A, represents the bib or casting having the flange 1 which is adapted to be placed against the wall of a building, and 2, is the end to which the water passes and to which a hose can be attached. The bib or casting A is connected to a horizontal pipe 3 which passes through the wall of the building and connected to the end of the pipe 3 1s a coupling 4:. Connected to the coupling is the water supply pipe 5.
Extending through the pipe 3 and the bib, is a valve stem 6 which has screwthreads 7 engaging the screw-threads 8 in the bib or casting A, and a cap 9 is received on the valve stem and screwed onto the casting A for closing the end.
A wheel 10 on the outer end of the valve stem is adapted to operate the same through screw -threaded connections on the valve stem and bib. The inner end of the valve stem 6 is provided with a washer forming a valve 11. The valve 11 is adapted to engage the end of the supply pipe 5 which is received in the coupling 4: which forms a valve seat for the valve whereby the water is prevented from entering pipe 3.
"When it. is desired to obtain water, the
Letters Patent. Patented June 29, 1909.
1908. Serial No. 427,548.
1 wheel 10 is turned, causing the valve 11 to E be removed from its seat through screwthreaded connections of the valve stem and l bib, whereby the desired supply of water is obtained from the supply pipe, 5, through pipe 3, passing through the nozzle 2, of the l bib.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a simple and eflicient wall hydrant by means of which various objects of the invention may be attained during all seasons of the year, and there will be no t danger of the pipe freezing if the supply l pipe is closed on the inner wall of the house l instead of closing it as it passes through the l wall. 1 It is evident that more or less slight l changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts de scribed without departing from the spirit I and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a wall hydrant, the combination with a wall pipe and a bib connected to one end thereof, of a supply pipe having a reduced end, 'a coupling internally screw-threaded at both ends adapted to receive the end of the wall pipe and the reduced end of the supply pipe for connecting the two pipes, said coupling being of the same internal diameter throughout its length, and a valve stem having screw threaded engagement with the bib, and a valve of less diameter than the interior of the coupling on the end of the valve stem adapted to be seated on the end of the supply pipe entering the coupling, and means for operating the valve stem.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL IIUNSBERGER.
