Specification of Letters Patent.
Puten'kd Oct. 20, 10.
Application ma september e, 1907. lum No. $91,006.
object is to treat the condltlon of the body by the therapeutic influence of vibration and dilatation, for such diseases as chronic constipation, hemorrhoids, fissures and other chronic conditions of the lower bowels, in which there is a lack or impairment of muscular development or tone, or any impairment in the functions of that part of the body, also for the ktreatment of prostatic trouble whether of chronic or acute inflammation also for the treatment by vibration and dilation of disease of the bladder, uterus, ls)to(vimach, ear, nose, throat and cavities of the The invention relates to certain novel features of constructions and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.
A, represents a liexible rubber applicator, which is made solid at the end 1, and hollowed out through the center. 'Ihe a plicator is made on two bores, and the arge bore 2 at the front end of the applicator is for the reception of the hollow stem 3. At one end of thebore 2, a smaller bore 4 is formed which extends to within a short distance of the end 1 of the applicator, and at about the end of the bore 4 openings 5, 5 are made through the applicator for the passage of air.
The end 1 of the applicator A has a slight depression 6, and over the end and around the applicator for a short distance, a rubber bag 7 is placed, and at the end ofthe bag which fits over the end 1 of the ap licator a ca 8 is formed so that the end o the bag will conform to the end of the applicatorand enter the depression 6- thereby preventingthe bag from getting out ofp-place. The bag 7 is preferably vulcanized to the applicator A, at 9, butof course itcould be removably secured to the shaft.
The stem 3 is provided with a screw attachment 10 whereby the vibrating instrument (not shown.) may be attached. A collar or shield 11 is mounted on the stem 3 and extends around the end of the applicator A, and prevents any escape of air and assists in supporting the hollow stem.
Uonnected to the stem is atube 12, having a stop-cock 13 therein, for or releasing air to the stemand applicator or conducting the air to the bag 7, and this sto cock is provided with a. valve whereby t e back pressure of air can not escape until properly released. Arubber bulb 14 is connected to thetube 12 by the rubber tubing 15 whereby air is conducted to the bag 7 by pressure being exerted on thebulb 14..
When the apparatus is introduced into the vpart to be treated, the rubber bulb by pressure bein exerted thereon, forces the air through t e applicator A, and through the openings 5, into the bag 7 dilating it4 the required amount, and then the vibrator is set in operation. Air can be admitted and released from the bag 7 without stopping the vibrator or in anywise disturbing the patient. It is the alternating contraction and dilatation of the bag with the vibratory movements that roduce the massage effect upon the internal delicate muscular fibers and mucous membrane. This stimulates the muscular contraction and development, giving better circulation, depletes the parts of over ingorgement of blood, stimulates oxidation and restores the parts to healthy action.
By this invention I am able to give two distinct therapeutic treatments by means of the massage and dilatation, and by vibration or oscillation. By this treatment dilatation can be brought in the cavities of the body without the danger of air escaping into the cavities and thereby producin bad results.
It is evident that many sight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described in making the apparatus in smaller or larger sizes whereby other parts of the body can be treated as the stomach, esophagus, nose and ear, Without departing from the sco e and s irit of m invention, and hence I go not dbsire to 'mit myself to the exact construction herein set forth; but:-
Havin fully described my invention andl what I esire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s:-
1'. A massa and vibratory apparatus,
comprising a ollow applicator having depressions at one end, a bag Conforming to the end of the ap licator and received in the de pressions an( connected at its other end to the applicator.
2. A massage and vibratory apparatus comprisinf a hollow applicator having dcpressions t erein at one end, a bag connected to the applicator, and the end of the ba@1 ada ted to conform to the shape of the end of t e applicator, a stem connected to the a plicator whereby a vibratory effect may e roduced, and means connected to the stem A or inlating the bag.
5. A massage and vibratory apparatus` comprising a hollow applicator, flexible at one end, a bag connecte to the flexible end of the applicator, a hollow stem journaled in the app icator whereby the vibratory effect may be produced, and means connected to the stem for inflating the bag.
6. A massage and vibratory apparatus, comprising an ap licator, solid at one end and counter-bore( throughout its remaining length, and a hollow stem inserted in ono end of the bore, a tube connected to the stem having a stop-cock therein, a rubber bulb on said tube, and a screw attachment on the outer end of the stem adapted to receive a vibrating instrument.
7. A massage and vibrator apparatus, comprising an ap licator, soli at one end and counter-bore( throughout its remaining length, and a hollow stem inserted in one end of the bore7 a tube connected to the stem having a stop-cock therein, and a rubber bulb on said tube, said a plicator having openings from the bore to t e surface for the passage of air and a rubber bag fitted over the solid end of the applicator, said bag secured to the applicator at a suitable distance from the solid end.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
