Description

PATENTED JULY 23, 1907.
B. GLARK.
f BROOM HANGER. rum-T1011 rum) W/TNESSE ATTOHNE Y8- BERTHA CLARK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BROOM-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907.
Application filed September 19, 1906. Serial No. 335,237.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTHA CLARK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, (borough of Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Broom-Ha'nger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its main object to provide suitable means adapted to be attached to the handle of a broom, sweeper, mop or the like, to enable such articles to be hung on a wall or bracket.
Other objects of the invention are stated in connection with the description of the elements composingthe invention.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
As illustrated in the drawings, Figure .1 represents my invention applied to a broom-handle, and suspended from a wall; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the end of a broom-handle embodying my invention; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a vertical, central section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
As illustrated in the drawings, 1 represents a broomhandle having its upper end provided withparallel grooves 1 connected by means of a curved transverse groove l formed on the extremity of the handle. Oppositely disposedrecesses 1 are formed in the sides of the handle and communicate with thelongitudinal grooves 1. Therecesses 1 are adapted to engage theoffset converging ends 2 of ayoke 2 which is formed with parallel side bars adapted to engage thelongitudinal grooves 1 of the' end of the handle. The side bars of theyoke 2 are connected by means of a transverse, curvedcentral portion 2 which is adapted to engage thecurved groove 1 of the handle. The lower ends of the yoke are provided withcurved projections 2 which extend outwardly from thegrooves 1 of the handle. The depth of the side grooves l andend groove 1 is equal to the thickness of thebars 2 and 2 forming the yoke, so that the outer surface of the yoke will be flush with the surface of the handle. The projectingportions 2" enable the yoke to be readily grasped by the fingers and moved longitudinally of the handle so as to extend thecurved cross-bar 2 of the yoke be- Patent is:
1. The combination of a handle provided with a groove extending in parallel lines along the sides and in a curved line across the end of the handle, and with oppositely disposed recesses communicating with the ends of said groove, and a yoke having parallel side bars and a curved central portion adapted to be received by said groove and be moved longitudinally therein, offset ends extending outward from the said bars, and inwardly converging extremities adapted to be moved longitudinally in said recesses, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of a handle provided with a facial groove extending in parallel lines along the sides and transversely across the end of the handle and with recesses extending from the outer surface of the handle inward from the ends of said groove, and a yoke having parallel side bars and a curved central portion adapted to be received in said groove, and inwardly projecting extremities movable longitudinally in said recesses, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
BERTHA CLARK.
Witnesses 2 JNO. M. BITTER, ROBERT W. HARDIE.
