GAS-VALVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 9, i907.
Application filed October 23. 1905. Serial No. 284,095.
To alZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RINEIIART Ciims'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Imrovernents in GasValves, of which the foloWing is a specification.
This invention is a gas valve or cock, and has for its object to provide a turning-plug having a stop to prevent the plug from being turned too 'lar, and the gas thus accidentally turned on again after being turned oil', and which shall also serve to hold the plug in its casing.
A further object is to provide a stop so con structed and arranged that it can be readily removed to enable the valve parts to be separated for the purpose of cleaning the same or otherwise.
In the accompanying drawings, IV is an elevation of the invention. big. 1 longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 0 is transverse section on the line 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 10 denotes the casing or shell containing the conical turning-plug 11. Outside the easing and at one its of ends the plug is shaped to form ahandle 12. The plug is prevented from being withdrawn from the casing by a half-collar 13, which is fastened to the casing by ascrew 14, and extends into agroove 15 in the plug adjacent thehandle 12 and outside the casing. Said groove does not extend entirely around the plug, so that astop 16 is formed to prevent the lug from being turned too far, and the gas t lus accidentally turned on again after being turned oil.
The plug is bored lengthwise from one end to the other, as at 17, and also has atransverse passage 18, extending from said bore and adapted to register with the inlet-port l9 oi the casing when the gas is turned on. The
inlet comprises atubular nipple 20, which is threaded for attachment to the gas-supply pipe. The gas enters thebore 17 through thepassage 18 and llows 'from thedischarge end 21 of the bore. The 0 )posite end of the here is closed by a screw-plug 22. Adjacent thedischarge end 19 the casing 1.0 is formed with anipple 23, which is threaded for attachment to the stove or other fixture. It thebore 17 becomes clogged, it can be readily cleaned by simply removing theplug 22 and running a wire through. The plug 11 can also be readily removed from thecasing 10 upon taking oil the half-collar 13, and this can be done without disconnecting the valve from the stove or other lixtures.
Having thus d escribcd my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
A valve comprising a casing, a turningplug therein, said plug having near one of its ends outside the casing a groove and a stop in the groove, and a half-collar secured to the casing and extending into the groove, and engageable with the stop.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
