ELLA YELVINGTON ELY, OF BELTON, TEXAS.
FOOT-TUB.
specifleation of Letters Patent.
latented March 19, 1907.
Application filed May 8, 1906. Serial No. 315,827. v
T col/ 'LU/wm, t 'Matty concern.'
Be it known that I, ELLA YELviNGToN ELY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belton, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Foot- Tub, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to foot-tubs, and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple, inexpensive, and eflicient device of this character especially designed for use by invalids and other persons in bathing or applying hot or cold applications to the feet and limbs.
The object of the invention is to provide a tub or liquid-retaining receptacle the cover of which is provided with recesses or openings to accommodate the limbs of the patient, the adjacent wall of the receptacle at said openings being curved rearwardly to form a bearing-surface, so as to prevent injury to the limbs of the patient when the latter is in an incumbent position.
A further object of the invention is to provide the tub with a feed-spout for supplying liquid to the receptacle and, further, to provide means carried by the cover for closing the spout, thereby to prevent the escape of steam or heat during the bathing operation.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions, and minor details of constructions may be resorted to within thescope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a foot-tub constructed in accordance with my invention. Eig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in'both figures of the drawzThe device consists of a substantially rectangular liquid-containingreceptacle 5, having its upper or free edge inclined downwardly from thefront wall 6 to the rear wall 7 thereof, as shown.
The receptacle is provided with oppositely-disposed handles 8 to facilitate carrying or transporting the tub from place to place, and communicating with the interior of said receptacle, near the bottom thereof,
l l l is a feed-spout 9, by means of which hot or' cold water or other liquid may be introduced into said receptacle.
The top of the receptacle is provided with aremovable cover 10, having communicating recesses l1 formed in one end thereof to accommodate the limbs of the invalid and defining a lateral finger or projection 10', adapted to bear against the knees of the patient, one wall of said openings being formed by theinclined wall 6 of the receptacle when said cover is placed in position on the tub, as shown. The upper end of thewall 6 at the openings or recesses 1 1 is curved downwardly and rearwardly to forni a cylindrical bearing-surface 12, so as to prevent cutting or otherwiseinjuring the limbs of the patient when the latter is supported in an inclined or incumbent position during the bathing operation.
Thecover 10 is provided with a suitable handle 13, and pivoted to one end of the cover at 14 is a hinged portion orextension 15, adapted to form a closure for the spout 9, so as to prevent the escape of steam or heat while the patient is being bathed.
Attention is called to the fact that theinclined wall 6 forms a support or rest for the limbs of the invalid, while the opening in the cover permits the latter to be readily placed upon or removed from the receptacle during the bathing operation without the necessity of disturbing the invalid.
It is obvious that the tub may be used in the ordinary manner, if desired, and the same may be formed in different sizes and shapes.
It will thusbe seen that there is provided an extremely simple and eflicient device admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view. Y
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a liquid-containing receptacle having one wall thereof curved laterally to form a terminal bearing-surface, and a cover having an opening formed therein and disposed at said bearing-surface.
2. A device ofthe class described, comprising a liquid-containing receptacle, one Wall of which is inclined toward the bottom of the receptacle and provided at its free edge with a curved bearing-surface, and a cover having an opening formed therein and disposed at said bearing-surface.

ITO
ing a liquid-containing receptacle having one Wall thereof curved laterally to form a terminal bearing-surface, a feed-spout commu- I nicating with the interior of the receptacle, a l cover having an opening formed therein and disposed at said bearing-surface, and an eX- I tension carried by the cover. and forming a I closure for the feed-spout.
4:. A device of the class described, compris ing a liquid-containing receptacle having its upper edge inclined downwardly and one of its end Walls curved laterally to form a bearg ing surface, a feed spout communicating with the interior of the receptacle, a cover ,l having an opening formed therein and disl posed at said. bearing-surface, and an eXteny 3. A device of the class described compris- I l sion pivoted to the cover and forming a closure for the feed-spout.
5. A device of the class described, com rising a liquid-containing receptacle, the ont Wall of which is inclined toward the bottom of the receptacle and provided at its free edge with a curved bearing-surface, a cover having communicating recesses formed in one end thereof and dening a lateral projection the free end of which terminates short of the adjacent vertical Wall of thevreceptacle, and a feed-spout communicating With the interior of the receptacle.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
ELLA YELVINGTON EEY.
