Description

M. DAMATO.
. KNOGKDOWN WARDROBE. APPLICATION FILED MAY2,1906.
' INVENTOH 7 ATTORNEYS PATENTED Nov. 13; 190.6.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 13. 1906.
Application filed May 2i, 1906. Serial No. 314.737.
T0 ally/Item it may concern:
Be 15 known that I, MAURiCE DAMATO, a citizen of the United States, residing at .New
York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in..Knookdown Ward-- thereof with eyes, rin s, or SlIIlllfiI devices 0 robes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilledin the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates'to wardrobes; and the objectthereof is to provide an improved device of this class composed of separate parts connected. in such manner that they may be folded together ina 'c om pa'ct form convenient for shipment or for being moved about from place to place and extended and set up fornse inthe form of an ordinary wardrobe wheneverdesiredyand with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are desig-' nated by suitable reference characters in egjbh of the views, and in which'- Figure 1 is a perspective 'view of my im-.
proved wardrobe set up for use; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the back top, and sides I only and showing the top in a raised position; Fi 3, an inner perspective view of the detacha le front part of the wardrobe, and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the bottom of the wardrobe.
In the accompanying drawings, Figs. 2, 3,
V and 4 are ona smaller scale than Fig. 1.
the bac In the practice of my invention I provide a wardrobe (1, comprising a back member 1), sides 0, a top (1, a front 6, and a bottom f. The top (1 is hinged to the back I), as shown at and is adapted to be folded over and backwardly flush with the back. ,The to d is also provided adjacent to each end with a transverse roove or recess (1 and centrally of the lengt thereof and at a redetermined distance from the front edge t ereof with an eye, ring, or similar; device cl. The sides 0- are hinged to the back I), as shown at 0 and are ada ted to be folded inwardly against ii and said back is provided with strips 0 against which the sides strike or abut when they are opened, as shown in 2, and the top" ends of the sides 0 when the parts of the wardrobe are in position for use fit in the grooves or recesses (1 in the top (1. The sidescare also provided adjacent to the top and bottom thereof and on the inner side The front 6 is provided on its inner side i and adjacent to the opposite side edges thereof with vertical grooves or recesses 6 in which the front edges of the sides a fit when the device is set up for use, and said front is provided at the top-and bottom thereof or adjacent to -the top and bottom thereof with transve; sely-arrang'ed keepers e inwhich is secured. a stationary panel a and a sliding door 6 The keeper 6 at thebottom of the front is provided. with hooks e, which are ada ted to engage the eyes or rings 0 on the si es '0, near the bottom thereof, and the keeper 6 at the top of the front e is-provided adjacent to its opposite ends with hooks 3 adapted to engage the eyes or rings c at the top of the sides 0, and said keeper is also provided with a centrally-arranged hook adapted to engage the eye or ring d, which issecured to the top 01..
The door 6 is provided with a lock comprising separate parts 9 and g secured, respectively, to sald door and to the framework in which it is mounted, and in practice whenever it is desired to set the wardrobe up for use the top 01 is raised, the sides 0 are opened into the position shown in Fig. 2, the
top d is lowered onto. said sides, the bottom f is placed in position on the cleats c and the front e is set in position in such manner that the front edges of the sides 0 enter the longitudinalgrooves or'recesses e in said front. By inserting the hand through the open door the hooks a may be engaged with the eyesshipment, the above-described operation is bottom f, the top (1 is raised and folded backwardly, and the ,sides a are folded inwardly. The bottom 7 is placed in' the open s ace back of the panel e in the front 2, whic is occupied by the door 0 when the latter isopen', and the front r is placed on the folded sides 0. and the separate parts of the device when folded in'this manner may be tied together and wrapped up, if desired, for lshipment'or transportation from one point to another.
My improved wardrobe is simple in construction and operation and is particularly desi ned for use in flats, apartments, or similar dwelling places where there is not much f room and where the necessity for moving is frequent, and by employing a sliding door I also economize space.
- Having fullydescribed my invention,what
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A knockdown wardrobe comprising a back, sides hinged to the back and of reater verti-' cal length than said back, a top hinged tolthe tachable front having grooves adapted to receive the front edges of the sides, and means for securing the front to the sides and the top, when the parts are set u for useas a wardgobe, said front being also provided with a oor.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 1st day of May, 1906. v MAURICE DAMATO.
Witnesses F. A. STEWART, C. E. MULREA'NY.
