PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY O. AMUNDSON, OF ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA.
DRAWER, Box. OR RECEPTACLE FOR HARDWARE, 81.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 768,261, dated August 23, 1904.
Application filed February a, 1904.
' citizen of the United States, and a resident of Alexandria, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers, Boxes, or Receptacles for Hardware, &c., of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to drawers. boxes, or receptacles used in hardware and similar cabinets for containing goods, the object of the invention being to provide cheap and convenient means whereby specimens of the articles contained in each receptacle may be displayed upon the front of the receptacle; and to this end my invention consists inthe construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, to which reference is made and which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the front of a hardware cabinet-drawer made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same on line X X of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 illustrates the keyfor coiling the pliable metal strips,.and Fig. 4 illustrates one of the pliable metal strips.
In the drawings, 2 designates the front board of the drawer, box, or receptacle, the said front board being formed with a series ofapertures 3. These, as here shown, are formed in pairs in horizontal lines; but they may be differently arranged, if desired. In the drawings the front is shown formed with six apertures and is thus adapted to have displayed upon it arule 4, tack-claw 5, andbit 6 or other articles or tools. The tools or devices displayed are each held by one or more preferably twobinding bands, each composed ofa pliable-strip of metal 8 of a width about equal to the diameter of theapertures 3, formed into a loop or eye 9 around the tool. The ends of the strips are passed through the apertures in the front board and at the back of the board are coiled to form headslO, larger Serial N6. 191,770. (No model.)
in size than the apertures, thus holding the tools firmly in place. By uncoiling the saidheads 10 or by cutting them off with pincers or otherwise the tools may be removed from the front board.
In order to attach the tools or devices in place on the front of the board, I cut the strip of pliable metal 8 to the proper length and fold it at the center of its length around the device and pass the ends of the strip through an aperture in theboard 2 and then apply to. them thesplit key 12 and therewith coil the ends to form ahead 10 at the back of the board. .When thus coiled down tight against the back of the board, the key is removed, leaving the spacedcentral portion 13 intact, so that in detaching the tool thekey 12 or other instrument may be applied again thereto and the strip uncoiled either completely, so that the band may be wholly withdrawn, or only partially, so that the tool may be slipped out and another put in its place, when the strip may be coiled up again to form the head.
My invention is also applicable to displayboards, sample-cases, and similar displaying and advertising devices.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
. In a receptacle for hardware goods, or similar articles, a front piece for said receptacle having apertures formed therein, in combination with a flexible strip of metal formed into an eye or loop to receive and hold the device to be displayed, the ends of said strip of metal being passed through the aperture in said front piece and coiled to form a head at the back of said front piece, saidcoil having a spacedcentral portion 13, substantially as and for the purposes described.
