LUTHER RFRIESTEIDT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SHEET-PILING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 735,489, dated August 4, 1903.
Application led May 21, 1903. Serial No. 158,111. (No model.) V
TotZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUTHER P. FRIESTEDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet-Filing; and I do here-AA either a permanent or temporary character.
,ication The beam-sections A are provided with rib r bar edges, the web of the beams bisecting the same so, that the thickened part Will be raised equally on each side thereof. The ribs 4:, formed ou the respective edges of sections A, are approximately square in cross-section and provide a locking-shoulder 5 on each side. v
The alternately-joining beam-sections B are provided on eac-hedge with anintegral jaw 6, formed with a groove or recess? of a shape to fit over one side of the ribs 4, the` hook edge of thejaw 6 having a locking en` gagement with the shoulder 5 on that side of the beam-section. A companion jaw 8 is 1ocated on the opposite side of the beam in forminga double-jaw connection. The jaw members 8 are separate parts and are provided with a riveting-Bange 9, through which the rivets IOQare inserted in rigidly securing the same to the beam-sections B. The hook edge ll of the jaw members 8 engage the shoulders 5 on the side of the Wall opposite to that of thejaw members 6 in forming a complete interlocking engagement of the beam-sections.
It will be understood that the interlocking rib and jaw edges run the full length of the beam-sections and also provide the usual guide features when assembling the beams in the operation of driving.
In the modification, Fig. 3, the rib edges a of the sections A are cylindrical in cross-section and the engaging jaw edges b on sections- B of a corresponding contour to properly lit the same in assembling the sections.
Having thus described` my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In metal sheet-piling, a beam-section provided with thickened rib edges, and a joining beam-section provided` with jaw members along the respective edges thereof and adapted to engage said rib edges in locking the sections together as they are assembled in a wall structure, substantially as set forth.
2. In metal sheet -piling, a beam -section having ribs formed on the respective edges thereof that are bisected by the web part and a joining beam-section provided with jaw members extending around on each side of said ribs in an interlocking engagement, sub-` stantially as set forth.
3. In metal sheetpiling, a beam -section provided with ribs on its respective edges that are bisected by the Web part and have shoulders formed along the inner sides thereof, and a joining beam-section provided with fixed jaw members having hook edges en# gaging said shoulders in locking the beamsections together, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
LUTHER P. FRIESTEDT.
