UNITED STATES Patented June 30, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL F. DETAMORE, OF TRIMBLE, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO WILLIAM ARMSTRONG, 0F TRIMBLE, VIRGINIA.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 732,677, dated June 30, 1903.
' Application filed March 28,1903. Serial No. 150,026. (No inodel.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, DANIEL F. DETAMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trimble, in the county of Highland and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. 7
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wrenches, and especially in the provision of acombined nut and pipe wrench with screw-driver attachment to the end of the shank portion of the fixed jaw; and it consists in the provision of various novel features of constructionand combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my improved wrench. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectionthrough the wrench, and Fig. 3 is an end view. Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a fixed jaw which has integral therewith a shank portion A, with teeth a upon one edge thereof, and a suitable handle B is secured to said shank portion. The fixed jaw A has upon one end a jaw at right angles to the shank portion adapted for use in cooperation with the slidingjaw O to forma nut-wrench, while the opposite end of said jaw A has a space cut away and angled, as at D, to cooperate with a spring-actuated jaw E, having teeth E upon one edge thereof to form a pipewrench. Said jaw E is pivotally mounted upon a pin e, which is passed through the wall of the chambered portion D of the sliding jaw O, and said jaw E has a hooked portion E adjacent to its pivotal point which is adapted to engage over the end of one of the upon a pin K a ratchet-lever N, the end of which is designed to engage the teeth a. Said jaw E has a shank portion F, carrying on its under surface a spring F, the end of which rests in a recess it, formed in-the outer' face of the bar H, and has a sliding movement therein as the handle F is raised and lowered, said spring being provided for the purpose of holding the front end of the jaw E, having the serrations thereon, at its farthest forward throw. A similar spring N is fastened to the inner face of the ratchetlever N, and its free end engages in an elongated recess h, which is formed in the outer face of the bar H. 7
One end of the jaw O is milled, whereby the same may be used as a hammer-head, and one end of the jaw A is formed into a claw A whereby the same maybe used for extracting nails. The outer end of the jaw A is slightly convexed in order to provide a suitable fulcrum for the jaw A when used in extracting nails, spikes, &c. and one end of s is'provided which may be used either as a nut or pipe wrench, while the fixed jaw is utilized as a tool for drawing spikes, nails, &c., and the end of the shank portion of the fixed jaw is formed into a screw-driver.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A combined pipe and nut wrench, comprise ing a fixed. jaw having a shank portion with serrations on one edge thereof, said jaw having a portion of itsinner face at right angles to the shank portion, and a sliding jaw cooperating therewith forming a nut-wrench, achambered guide-casing K, bars connecting the latter with said movable jaw on opposite edges of said shank portion, a pivotal jaw E mounted in a chambered portion of the sliding jaw and having a hooked portion projecting over the end of one of said bars, In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my a spring secured to an integral handle of said signature in presence of two witnesses.
pivotal jaw and having a play in a recess T formed in the outer edge of one of said bars, DAL IEL DETAMORE 5 and a spring-actuated ratehet-leverengaging Witnesses:
teeth on said shank portion of the fixed jaw, J. OLIF MATHENY,
as set forth. G. W. ARMSTRONG.
