To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR COLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hood River, in the county of WVasco and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Necktie-Frame, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a necktie frame and fastener c0mbined;particularly adapted for scarf -ties without a neckband, which frame is made from one piece of spring-wire, thus dispensing with a separate cardboard or metal piece, and to so shape the device that it can be economically and conveniently manufactured and will constitute an efficient form of support for the body or knot portion of the tie and will provide means for attachment to a collar button and any style of turn-down collar, and also to so shape the device that it will have a maximum of elasticity.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide a combined necktie frame and fastener adapted for use in connection with all kinds of ready-made ties, exceptingbows, and which will dispense with the use of a neckband.
The invention consists in the-novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a tie, illustrating the application of the device thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the necktie-frame removed from the tie, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken practically on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The combined frame and fastener is made from one piece of wire of suitable gage bent upon itself to form two upwardly and slightly rearwardly bent wings A and B, a buttonclamping section 0 between the wings, and a lower central body-section D. In the formation of the wings the upper members 10 are concaved and thelower members 11 are convexed, and the connectingmembers 12 at the outer ends of the wings are more or less semicircular, as is shown in Fig. 2. At the inner ends of the upper members 10 of the wings the wire is carried vertically downward to a point below thelower members 11 of the wings, with a space between them, forming the front members 13 of the button-clamping section O. The wires are then returned upward at the rear of the members 13 and are inclined more or less forwardly to form therear members 14 of the said clamping-section O. The forward inclination of themembers 14 is such that at their upper ends they closelyapproach the front members 13 to bring the central portion of the button-clamping section C as near the front of the frame as possible, so that when the tie is made up on the frame the rear portion of the button-clamping section, which is then exposed, will bear more or less against the head or knot e of the tie E.
At the central portion of the button-clamp ing section 0 a downwardly-extendingloop 15 is provided, open at the top, and saidloop 15 is formed by carrying the wire from the top of themembers 14 at a downward and inward inclination and then giving the wire at that point a semicircular formation, so that the upperportion of the loop is flaring to permit the ready reception of the shank of a collar-button, while the semicircular formation at the bottom of the loop enables said portion to easily receive the shank of the collar-button, and yet prevent the shank from accidentally leaving the loop.
The central lower section D of the frame is practically V-shaped, and is intended to support and stiffen the lower portion of the body or knot of the scarf-tie, and is formed by car rying the ends of the wire downward from the inner ends of thelower members 11 of the wings until said ends meet at a point below the button-clamping section 0 on a line drawn vertically through the center of the frame. The ends of the wire of the frame are secured together, preferably by asolder connection 16; but the ends may be twisted together or otherwise secured.
The knot portion of the tie E is built up upon the centralportion of the frame, covering and concealing all of such portion except the rear part ofthebutton-clamping section 0, as is shown in Fig. 1, and the Wings A and B of the frame are covered by tabs 2', extending from the upper corner portions of the knot of the tie, and thus the spring-supported tabs are passed between the front and rear members of a turn -down collar when the clamping-section O of the frame has been adjusted on the collar-button.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A combined necktie frame and holder, constructed of a single piece of spring-wire bent upon itself, forming spaced upwardly and rearwardly curved wing-sections, a central button clamping section between the wings, including front and rear members, and an open loop connecting the upper ends of the rear members, and a substantially V-shaped bottom section extending from the lower inner portions of the wings to a point below the button-clamping section at the Vertical center of the frame, substantially as described.
2. A combined necktie frame and holder, constructed of a single piece of wire bent upon itself to form spaced upwardly and rearwardly curved wing-sections, the upper members of the wing-sections being concaved and the lower members convexed, the said wire being further bent to form a central button-clamping sectionat the inner ends of the upper members of the wings, which button-clamping section includes front and rear members below the upper members of the wings, the rear members having an inclination at their upper ends in direction of the forward members, and an open loop connecting the upper ends of the rear members of the button-clamping section, which open loop is semicircular at its bottom portion and is flaring at its upper or mouth portion, the wire being still further bent upon itself to form a V-shaped central lower section extending some distance below the central clamping-section, the ends of the wire being secured together at the point of the said central lower section, as and for the purpose described.
