COMBINED MATCH, CIGARETTE, AND CIGAR HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRANK SAGE BoWLBY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wellington, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Match and Cigarette and Cigar Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts wherever found throughout the several views.

This invention relates to receptacles or holders for matches and cigarettes or cigars; and the object thereof is to provide an improved combination device of this class which is simple in construction and operation.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which' Figure 1 is a sectional side view of my improved combination match and cigarette or cigar holder; Fig. 2, a central vertical section of the body portion thereof, showing the lid or cover in a raised position and Fig. 3, a plan view thereof.

In the practice of my invention I provide a receptacle A, which may be composed of any desired material and which is preferably angular in form, and said receptacle is provided with a bottom a, and near one side thereof with a vertical partition (L in. which is formed a vertical slot a and mounted in the body portionof the receptacle is a spring B, above which is placed a disk or plate C, which is provided with an arm D, which extends through a slot a and which is provided at its end with an upwardly-directed extension E, to the top ofwhich is secured a vertically-movable piston'or plate F.

Pivotally connected with the disk or plate C at each side thereof are rods G, and I also provide a cap or cover H, which is hinged to the receptacle at one side thereof, as shown at h, and the upper ends of the rods G are 'pivotally connected therewith, and opposite the hinge h is a spring-catch K, and said cap or cover II is provided with an outwardly-directed or flaring flange or rim L, which is adapted to fit over the upper end of the receptacle A, and the spring K engages therewith to hold the cap or cover closed against the operation of the spring II.

In practice the cigarettes or cigars are placed in the body portion of the receptacle 5 5 and rest upon the disk or plate C, and the matches are placed in a chamber M, formed by the partition a and rest upon the piston or vertically-movable plate F, and in order to close the receptacle the cap or cover H is depressed, as shown in Fig. 1, and the spring K engages with the flange or rim L and holds the cap or cover in a closed position. In this operation the disk or plate C and the piston or plateF are depressed by the rods G, and the cigarettes or cigars and the matches drop downwardly therewith, and whenever it is desired to open the receptacle the cap or cover may be pulled upwardly, so as to disengage it from the spring-catch K, or said spring catchK may be drawn outwardly, and said cap or cover will be thrown backwardly and held in the open position to the spring D, and at the same time the cigarettes or cigars and the matches willbe raised and projected above the top of the receptacle.

In practice I prefer to countersink the rods G in the side of the box or casing, as shown in Fig. 3, so that they will not interfere in any way with the contents of the box or casing, and it will also be apparent that I may substitute a box for the disk or plate 0 and a similar box for the disk or plate F, said boxes to be opened on their upper sides and thus serve as receptacles for cigars or cigarettes and matches, and it will also be ap parent that boxes of this class may be used for various other purposes, as well as for cigars and cigarette holders, and my invention is not limited to the use to which the box or receptacle is put.

This device is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and it may be made of any desired material.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.. The receptacle herein described, consisting of a suitable casing which is closed at the 100 bottom, and provided near one side with a vertical partition in the lower end of which is formed a vertical slot, a spiral spring mounted in the main part of the receptacle, and provided with a plate or disk, which is mounted thereon, said plate or disk being provided with an arm which projects through said slot, and which supports a vertically-movable plate or piston located in the chamber formed by said partition, substantially as shown and described.

The receptacle herein described, consisting of a suitable casing which is closed at the bottom, and provided near one side with a vertical partition in the lower side of which is formed a vertical slot, a spiral springmounted on the main part of the receptacle, and provided with a plate or disk, which is mounted thereon, said plate or disk being provided with an arm which projects through said slot, and which supports a vertically-movable plate or piston located in the chamber formed by said partition, said casing being also pro vided with a hinged lid or cover, with which are pivotally connected rods which are pivotally connected with the plate or disk which is mounted on the spring, substantially as shown and described. I

The receptacle herein described, consisting of a suitable casing which is closed at the bottom, and provided near one side with a vertical partition in the lower end of which is form ed a vertical slot, a spiral spring mounted in the main part of the receptacle, and prol vided with a plate or disk which is mounted thereon, said plate or disk being provided with an arm which projects through said slot, and which supports a vertically-movable plate or piston located in the chamber formed by said partition, said casing being also provided I with a hinged lid or cover, with which are pivotally con nectcd rods which are pivotally connected with the plate or disk which is mounted on the spring, and said casing being also provided with a spri n g-catch by which the cap or cover is held in the closed position, substantially as shown and described.

The herein-described box or receptacle, consisting of a suitable casin g, which is closed at the bottom, and provided near one side with a vertical partition in the lower end of which is formed a vertical slot, and whereby the box or casing is divided into two compartments, a spiral spring mounted in the main compartment, and provided with a disk plate or support mounted thereon, said disk plate or the support being provided with an arm which. projects through said slot, and which supports a vertically-movable plate or other support in the chamber formed by said partition, substantially as shown and described.

5. The herein-described box or receptacle, consisting of a suitable casing, which is closed at the bottom, and provided near one side with a vertical partition in the lower end of which is formed a vertical slot, and whereby the box or casing is divided into two compartments, a spiral spring mounted in the main compartment, and provided with a disk, plate or support mounted thereon, said disk, plate or the support being provided with an arm which projects through said slot, and which supports a vertically-movable plate or other support in the chamber formed by said partition and said box or casing being also provided with a hinged cover with which are pivotally connected two rods which are countersunk in the sides of the box or casin g, and which are pivotally connected with the plate, disk or other support which is mounted on said spring, substantially as shown and described.
