L. GOODMAN.
OVERALLS.
No. 564,373. Patented July 21, 1896. I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS GOODMAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,373, dated July 21, 1896.
Application filed June 1, 1896- sellal N0. 593,708. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to improve workmens overalls of the bibbed variety in a manner to render them convertible at will into double-breasted overalls and aproned overalls for carrying in conveniently accessible position on the person such articles as tools, nails, screws, and the like.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of overalls with my improvement in its condition of affording the apron, and Fig. 2 a similar view of the same with the apron feature raised to supplement the bib of the overalls and thereby render thelatter double-breasted.
A is a pair of overalls of any usual or suitable general construction involving a bib B, extending from the waist portion of the garment to afford a covering for the front portion of the upper part of the body of the wearer, and which bib is provided on its upper edge with fastenin gs, shown as loops 4", for the ends of the suspenders O.
D is my improved convertible apron and supplemental bib. It is shown to be of the same shape and size as the inner bib B, to coincide with and cover the latter when raised to the position in which it is shown in Fig. 2, on its sewed connection at '0 with the front of the waist portion of the overalls, and it presents on its outer surface the appearance of the ordinary bib B. On the inner side of the bib D, I provide to extend across it a pocket D, and preferably two pockets, as shown, or more, one above the other, with their open sides upward when the bib is in its pendent apron position, Di-
r'ectly over the uppermost pocket D, across the front of the inner bib B, I fasten, near the waist portion of the overalls, a strap E to form a series of loops for holding tools in position of convenient access, thereby to sup plement the function of the pocket-equipped pron in affording convenience in the matter of stowing and holding accessibly articles requi ed for use by the wearer of the overalls whil at work.
Wh the bib D is not required for its f unctio as an apron, it may be raised to cover the bib in which position it is adapted to be held at ops or eyes 1" or other suitable fastenings 0 its edge by the suspenders C, and affords to the overalls the protecting function of a double-breasted garment, while it also conceals the tools that may be carried in the loops p by the workman in going to and from his work.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture, overalls provided with bibs B and D, the bib -D having means for engaging the suspenders, a pocket D on its inner side and being fastened to fold down and constitute an apron and to be raised to cover the bib B and form therewith a double breast, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, overalls provided with bibs B and D, the bib D having means for engaging the suspenders and a pocket D on its inner side and being fastened to fold down and constitute an apron and to be raised to cover the bib B and form therewith a double breast, and the bib B having a series of loops 19 near the base of its front side, substantially as described.
