EJECTING OIL OUT OF OIL-WELLS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,513, dated December 30, 1890.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM GEISER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salina, in the county of Venango, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful 1mprovement in Devices for Ejecting the Oil out of OilWells, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for ejecting the oil out of oil-wells by means of a gas-jet; and the object of my improvement is to prevent the ejector from becoming obstructed bysediment. I attain this object as shown in the accompanying drawing, which is a partial elevation and partial section of one form of device for ejecting the oil out of oil-wells and has attached to it my improvement.

The ejector B is a fitting connected with the oil-tubing A at a point near toor below the oil-producing rock. Into this fitting gas is conveyed by a pipe F and escapes through a small orifice H into the oil-tubing A, for the purpose of ejecting the oil from the said tubing. After the oil has been ejected the flow of gas is stopped by closing the valve G, placed in the pipe F for that purpose. Oil

will now accumulate in the tubing A, flowing in from the oil-producing rock, and will continue to rise in the tubing A until it has reached the highest level of the said oil-producing rock. As the oil rises above the ejector it will flow through the orifice H into the ejector, thence into the gas-pipe F, and

as the oil is in a comparative state of rest, and

is absolutely so after it has reached its highest level, the foreign mattersuch as scales, dirt, &c.from the pipes held in suspension will be deposited in the ejector as commonly constructed, and it has been found in practice will eventually so obstruct the passage of gas as to make the device inoperative.

As my improved ejector is constructed, a receptacle for the deposit of sediment is formed by screwing a pipe G into the under side of the ejector and plugging the other end, the ejector being so formed above where the pipe screws into it as to allow all sediment to settle below and out of the way of the current of gas as it passes through, thereby preventing all possibility of any particles "eing carried along by the gas to obstructthe small orifice H.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

An ejector for oil-wells, consisting of the body 13, provided with the orifice H, andthe sediment-receiving pipe 0, in combination with the gas-pipe F and discharge-tube A, all arranged and operating substantially as set forth.
