` W. H. H. DUTY. DEVIGE IoII ADMINISIERING- MEDICINE To ANIMALS.
Patented June 24, 1890.
/NVE/vo mzzfamhmpy By 'KI/JMA ATTORNEYS s Pneus co., woovuwu., wAsnma-roN n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM H. I-I. DOTY, OF PATERSON, NEW JERSEY.
DEVICE FOR ADMINISTERING MEDICINE TO ANIMALS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,928, dated June 24, 1890). Application tiled April 25, 1890. Serial No. 849,537. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. II. DOTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pat erson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Veterinary Devices for Administering Medicine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in instruments or devices for administering' medicine to animals; and the invention consists in the details of construction set forth in the following specification and claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows a sectional elevation of a syringe constructed'according to my invention.
In the drawing, the letter A indicates the discharge-pipe of the instrument. Abulb or compressible hollow ball B is shown secured to the pipe A. The mouth of the dischargepipe is provided with a reversible bag C, of rubber, cloth, or other suitable flexible material.
Vhen it is desired to administer' a pill to a horse or other animal, the bag C in the month of the discharge-pipe is pressed inward, as shown in full lines in the drawing, and the pill D is placed into the bag. The pipe A is then inserted into the throat of the animal a suitable distance, and on compressing the bulb B the bag C is forced out to the position indicated by dotted lines in the drawing and the pill D is ejected into the throat of the animal. The pipe A is of course long` enough to extend a suitable distance into the throat of the animal. In place of the bulb B a piston working in a cylinder can be made to similarly operate the bag U.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by `Letters Patent, is
Amedicine-administering device having its mouth or discharge-opening provided with a reversible bag, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. H. DOTY. Witnesses:
WM. H. KEAESING, E. F. KASTENHUBEE.
