SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,730, dated March 18, 1890.

Application filed April 11, 1889- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. CHARLTON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and use- I ful Improvement in Meat, Hammock, or other hook, the latter being adapted to interlock with the former in a manner as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a hook embodying myinvention. Fig. 2 represents a front View of the back plate thereof.

Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the hook, taken from the rear, the parts being separated. Fig. 4 represents a central vertical section thereof.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresparts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a back plate, having therein a slot B, which may be said to be T-shaped. In the rear of said plate is a recess 0, the wall of which, at the bot-tom thereof, has a depression forming a groove D, it being noticed that the slot B is in communication with the recess 0 and the latter is in communication with the groove D.

E designates a hook having at its back a T-shaped head F, the several parts described being formed of suitable metal or other material.

The operation is as follows: The parts being separated, the hook is presented to the back plate A, as shown-in Fig. 3. The head F, which is in horizontal position, is inserted into the upper limb of the slot B and the hook rotated a quarter-turn, the head F then moving in the recess 0 until it is in upright position. in the groove D, whereby the hook is prevented from rotation, and as the head stands at a right angle to the. upper limb of the slot B and is in contact with the rear Wall of the plate A above and below said slot it is evident that the hook .is reliably interlocked with said plate. In the downward movement of the hook the neck G of the head F enters the vertical limb B of the slot B and engages with the walls thereof, thus providing additional security for the connection of the hook With the plate.

In order to remove the hook, it is raised so struction, in addition to providing an inex-- pensive and easily-operating device, I dispense with .keys, catches, the, and amalso enabled to support the back of the hook directly against the front faces of the back plate, avoiding wrenching out of the hook, said plate being secured in position by screws or other means in any suitable manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is p A hook having a T-shaped head on its shank extending in the direction of the length thereof, in combination with a plate having an opening in its face adapted to receive said head, and a recess in the rearthereof, in which said head can partially rotate, said recess having a groove in its lower end adapted to receive one end of said head, substantially as described.
