Askin Attorney, Agent, or FirmOstrolenl Faber, Gerb Sofi'en [5 7] ABSTRACT The specification describes a coaxial plug connector, preferably for air-space insulated cable, and which is adapted to be sealed by means of self-curing synthetic resin injected into-annular sealing chambers. The connector comprises a cable attachment part which is provided with annular grooves. These grooves form the annular sealing chambers and are connected with each other and with a filling opening by radial slots.

. preferably fo'r air-space insulated cables, which is adapted to be sealed with respect to the cables by means of self-curing synthetic resin which can be injected into annular sealing chambers.
In the case of such cable plug connectors the sealing of the plug connector with respect to the cable must be undertaken at two positions which are axially spaced. On the one hand sealing must be provided between the front part of the plug connector in order'to provide for a completely gas and-water tight connection between the line parts when the plug connection has been made, and on the other hand it is necessary to provide a seal between the plug connector and the outer casing of the cable in order. to prevent penetration of moisture between the outer cable conductor and the cable casing.
Sealing measureswhich only provide for a sealing action between the plug connector and the protective casing of the cable are not reliable because the casing consisting of synthetic resin tends to creep or-flow.
One aim of the present invention is to bring about this double sealing action by means of anelastic selfment part passes to the 'two axially spaced annular chambers and the front annular chamber brings about a formation of a seal between the front part of the plug connector and the'cable clamping means and the rear sealing chamber ensures the formation of a'seal between the cable tube, more particularly a'corrugated tube, and the cable grippingmeans. In the case of a corrugated tube cable the cable gripping means is in the form ofa nut adapted for use with corrugations. lnthis manner a reliable and permanent seal is provided for between the plug connector and the outer conductor of thecable, more particularly the corrugated tube outer conductor. Simultaneously the composition injected into the rear sealing chamber also brings about the formation of a sealingmeans between the protective cable casing and the plug connector.
The cable attachment part is preferably constructed as a clamping ring, which can be slid onto the cable ing opening through the slots within the 'cable'attachan insulating support means. This contact ring preferably has a radial hole for the passage of a gas filling, and the front part of the plug connector has a gas filling opening provided at this position.
In what follows an embodiment of the invention will be described with reference to the drawing.

The coaxial plug connector consists of a plug connector head 1, on which a clampingnut 3 is screwed. The rear part of the nut fits around theouter casing 5 of the cable. A cable attachment part constructed in the form of acable gripping part 2 is surrounded partly by the rear end of the plug connector head 1 and partly by the front end of thenut 3. In the case of the construction shown of the cable tube as a corrugated tube the cable gripping means is constructed as a corrugated tube nut and is screwed on the corrugated tube. The front end of this corrugated tube is flared or broadened out to I form a contactingflange 10, which lies on the front end ring surface of thecorrugated tube nut 2. By axially clamping theparts 1 and 3 the corrugated tube nut,- supported axially in a positive manner by thenut 3, is clamped against the contactingflange 10 of the outer conductor against a contactingring 9, which for its part is held or supported positively in an axial direction in the plug connector head. Thecorrugated tube nut 2 has a rear annular gro0ve4, which forms the rear sealing chamberbetween the corrugated tube and thecorrugated tube nut 2. Anouterannular groove 6, located in the central section of the cable gripping means 2, forms the front annular sealing chamber between the corrugated tube nut2 and the plug connector. Aligned with the front annular groove axially there is a filling jection or forcing-in of a self-curing duro-elastic syn-' thetic resin. The filling opening is connectedvwith the I annular front-sealing space 6 and with the rear annular tube forming the outer conductor or can be screwed on in the case of a corrugated tube and can be clamped byv means of a screw connection between the front part of the plug connector and the rear part of the plug connector in an axial direction and clamps the crimped over end ring surface of the cable outer conductor or of the cable tube so as to make axial contact.
The clamping action is preferably carried out in this case by means of a contact ring, which is supported from the front on the crimped over end ring contacting face and preferably serves simultaneously for receiving sealingspace 4 via connecting conduit orradial slots 8 in thecorrugated tube nut 2. Via theseslots 8 the synthetic resin composition injected in through the opening can pass into both annular sealing chambers so as to guarantee completely satisfactory sealing at both of the critical positions coming into question. In FIG. 1 the sealing composition has been omitted in order to aid intelligibility.
At the same level as thecontact ring 9 there is a gas connection opening with aclosing screw 11 and at the same level as this opening the contactingring 9 has'one or moreradial gas'p'assage openings 12.
Thecontact ring 9 surrounds an insulating support means 13, which to the. front rests axially against a step in the plug connector head, and to the rear rests against a step in the contactingring 9. Thisinsulating support member 13 receives theinner conductor 14, which is made integrally and has ascrew thread 15 by means of which it is screwed into. the internal conductor of the cable. - a cable comprising an internal conductor and an external conductor positioned around said internal conductorand spaced therefrom; said cable exterv nal conductor having a free endsection; a plugconnector-head which has an internal conductor therein and which'has anext'ernal conductor therein that is around its said internal and is spaced therefrom; said cable internal'conductor and said plug connector head internal conductor being electrically connected; said cable external conductor and said plug connector head external conductor being electrically connected; cable attachment part interposed between said cable and said plug connector head; said cable internal conductor passing through said attachment part; said cable external conductor also passing through said attachment part and its said free end section being supported against said attachment part near said plug connector head external conductor; 4 said'attachment part having a cable facing side which faces toward said cable and having an annular periphery; means connectedwith said cable and a portion of said plug connector head both passing around said attachment part periphery; said attachment part periphery being provided with a groove that com- .rnunicates with said plug connector head portion; a filling opening communicating from theexterior conductor 3. A plug'connector according toclaim 4,'wher'ein said plug connector head inner conductor is fastened to said cable inner conductor by means of the former being screwed into the latter; said plug connector head inner conductor having a tightening means for tightening it against said cable inner conductor.

A plug connector according 'to claim 2, wherein said cable attachment part includes means which grip said. cable and said 5 cable external conductor; said means connected with said cable beinga-nut attached to said cable, saidlnut clamping said attachment part against-said plug connector head and axially pressing said cable external conductor which is gripped by said attachment part toward said plug connector head.
7. A plug connector according to claim 6', wherein said attachment parthas a front face facing toward said plug connector head;-said cable outer conductor free end section. being crimped over said attachment part front face;

8. The plug connector ofclaim 7, further comprising an insulating support member interposed between said plug connector head electric contact ring and its said internal conductor.
9. A plug connector according toclaim 8, wherein a radial passage is formed through said electric contact 'ring,'and said plug connector has a filler opening therethrough communicating with said electric contact ring opening; closing means for said plug connector filler opening. I
10. A plug connector according toclaim 8, wherein said insulating support member is of a thermoplastic material and is closely fitted on said plug connector head internal conductor.
