WILLIAMS ATTORNEY MAGNIFYING ATTACHMENT FDR TWEEZERS SUMMARY it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a magnifying attachment affording the user an enlarged or magnified view, longitudinally through the tweezers, between the arms thereof of the object or part to be engaged by the tweezers.
A further object of the invention is to provide tweezers having magnifying means which may be made in various sizes for use in various fields of endeavor, as in the medical profession, by barbers and beauticians, in the arts and crafts, by mechanics, watchmakers and for general home use.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the drawing, illustrating presently preferred embodiments thereof, and wherein:

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring more specifically to the drawing and first with reference to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the tweezers as disclosed therein and designated generally 7 comprise ahead 8 and a pair of correspondingresilient arms 9. Thehead 8 is shown as being annular or ring-shaped but could be square or of other shapes so long as it provided an opening, such as theopening 10, of thehead 8. As best seen in FIG. 3, the ring member defining the head is of angular cross section including an outer flange 11 and an inwardly extendingbottom flange 12.
Thearms 9 are secured permanently in any conventional manner to diametrically opposed portions of the underside of thebottom flange 12. Said arms extend from thehead 8 in substantially parallel relation to one another and terminate at their opposite free ends in corresponding opposedgripping jaws 13, which are normally spaced apart from one another a slight distance as compared to the spacing between the opposite ends of thelegs 9, which are secured to thehead 8. This reduced spacing of thejaws 13 is accomplished by thearms 9 being curved inwardly with respect to one another, adjacent thejaws 13.
The ring-shaped head 8 provides a holder or support for amagnifying lens 14 which is disposed within the outer flange 11 and rests on thebottom flange 12 thereof. Themagnifying lens 14 can be secured in thehead 8, in any conventional manner, not shown.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that thetweezers arms 9 will be gripped by the user between his or her thumb and index or index and middle fingers for supporting and manipulating the tweezers. The user can view the object or part to be gripped between thejaws 13 through themagnifying lens 14 so that said object or part will appear enlarged or magnified to the user. The jaws I3 can be displaced toward one another by a squeezing or gripping pressure applied by the user to the arms.
FIGS. 4 and 5 illustrate a second embodiment of theinvention comprising tweezers 15 including a head 26 andarms 17. Thehead 16 is ring-shaped and includes an annular member it? having an outer flange 119 of considerable length and an inturned bottom flange 2d, substantially corresponding to the flange I2. Thearms 17 correspond to thearms 9 and are secured in the same manner to theflange 20. Amagnifying lens 21 is disposed in themember 18 and rests on itsbottom flange 20.
As seen in FIG. 5, the outer flange orsleeve 19 is internally threaded, as seen at 25, to threadedly receive an externally threadedtubular member 22 having an enlarged knurledannular rim 23 at its upper end in which is mounted a secondmagnifying lens 24. Themember 22 constitutes a part of the head I6 and is adjustable in thesleeve 19 for varying the spacing be tween thelenses 21 and 24 for focusing the magnifier, formed of said lenses. Thetweezers 15 are utilized in the same manner as heretofore described in connection with thetweezers 7. If desired, thelens 21 could be omitted and thelens 24, employed alone, could be adjusted toward and away from the gripping jaws of the arms E7 to afford the best focus, for enlargement of the object for the viewer.
The threads of themembers 19 and 22 could be omitted to provide a sliding or telescopic fit for adjusting the spacing between the focusing of thelenses 21 and 24, and various other modifications and changes are contemplated and may be resorted to without departing from the function or scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
ll. Tweezers comprising a ring-shaped head, a pair of resilient arms secured directly to substantially diametrically opposite portions of the head and extending in the same direction and in an axial direction from said head and disposed in spaced apart relation to one another, said arms having opposite free ends defining opposed jaws normally disposed in spaced apart relation to one another, said head having an opening disposed in alignment with the space between said jaws, and a magnifying lens covering said opening and supported by the head for magnifying an object to be gripped by the jaws when viewed by the user through said lens.
2. Tweezers as in claim 1, said head including an outer flange and an inwardly extending bottom flange, a marginal portion of said lens resting on said bottom flange.
3. Tweezers as in claim 2, a tubular member constituting a part of said head and size to fit into said outer flange, a second lens supported by said tubular member, and means for adjusting said tubular member longitudinally of the outer flange for varying the spacing between said magnifying lenses for focusing the magnifier.
4. Tweezers as in claim 3,'said means comprising a threaded connection between the outer flange and tubular member.
