Abstract

A body-worn urinal for females having an open pouch with a cylindrical member lined along its upper circumference with adjustable straps secured to the ends of the pouch and extending to a belt for positioning the pouch snugly against the flesh of the groins. The pouch having a drain pipe connected thereto and extending to a nozzle inserted into a funnel-shaped sheath and flutter valve forming the inlet of a disposable plastic bag. The nozzle is provided with an enlarged shoulder limiting the positioning of the nozzle in the flutter valve and upon wrapping the sheath about the nozzle with an O-ring slipped thereon against the shoulder a leakproof connection is effected. The plastic bag being placed in a pocket positioned on a garment worn by the person whereby a person may utilize the urinal while walking, sitting and standing as well as reclining.

such as bed wetters, etc.

It is a principal object of the present invention to provide a sanitary urinal that may be worn in relative comfort by females who are incapable of controlling the normal function of their bladder.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a urinal of the type stated that includes a urinal pouch with a detachable bag into which the urine from the pouch may drain. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the bag is relatively inexpensive plastic film that may be easily detached and disposed of when filled.

The pouch is of rubber or similar resilient material that is so designed that it may readily be turned inside out for cleansing, scrubbing and otherwise rendering the pouch sanitary.

It is another object of the present invention to provide urinal of the type stated in which the top of the pouch is contoured to fit comfortably in the crotch or groin of the wearer in a manner such that the genital organ is deeply within the pouch.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a urinal which has an open pouch lined about its upper circumference with a member of relatively large cross section that impresses itself into the soft flesh of the crotch or groin thus forming a stable niche for the urinal pouch along with suspension straps and belt.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a urinal that avoids the use of leg straps and the like, and utilizes a garment with a pocket for supporting the urine collecting bag, which garment may be used while the wearer is standing, walking, sitting as well as when in a reclining position.

With these and other objects in view, the invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, with "the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformitywith the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals are used to designate similar parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 refers to a body-worn urinal constructed in accordance with my invention and consisting in general of a pouch P which is placed between the legs and positioned at the groins, a suspension-type support 5 and a disposable bag B.

The pouch P is .made preferably of molded rubber or resilient molded plastic consists of a troughlike body member 11 having a relativelylarge diameter with ,a resilientcylindrical member 12 extending about the top edge of thebody member 11, and themember 12 havingIaninverted arch shape along the side of thebody member 11 to conform with the shape of a person's groins against which themember 12 becomes imbedded by reason of its large diameter. The body member P is provided with afloor 13 at one end of which is a drain opening 14 with adrain line 15 extending therefrom. Thedrain line 15 terminates in a male fitting l6 threadedly secured to a female fitting 17 that is mounted on the end of a discharge tube 18' that extends to and discharges urine in the disposable plastic bag B. The disposable plastic bag B consists of two layers. of plastic film heat sealed along the edges, as shown, except at openings. 18 and'19 to form a fluidtight receptacle. Opening 19 which is utilized as a discharge outlet has adischarge tube 20 heat sealed thereto. Thedischarge tube 20 is normally folded on itself and aplastic clip 21 slipped thereover as shown by FIG. 6 to seal the outlet 19. After the plastic bag B has been filled with urine and prior to disposing of the bag, theplastic clip 21 is removed from theoutlet tube 20 and the urine is evacuated from the bag B.

Theother opening 18 which is the inlet opening of the plastic bag B has aninlet flutter valve 22 attached thereto by heat sealing and extending inwardly of the plastic bag B. Also, attached to the inlet opening 18, but extending outwardly of the plastic bag is a funnel-shaped sheath 23, thefunnel 23 andflutter valve 22 being integral.

Mounted on the end of thedischarge tube 18 is adischarge nozzle 24 through which extends afluid passage way 25 to atapered outlet tip 26. Thedischarge nozzle 24 is provided with a peripheral shoulder larger in diameter than theopening 18 so that when thenozzle 24 is inserted in theinlet sheath 23, thetip 26 extends into theflutter valve 22 only approximately the middle thereof and cannot interfere with the operation of theflutter valve 22 to prevent urine from back flowing from the plastic bag B into thedischarge tube 18 Theshoulder 27 is made to engage the edge portion of the plastic bag B, then theinlet sheath 23 is wrapped around and into contact relation with the tube 18' and an O-ring 28 is rolled into position about the shank end of thenozzle 24. The O-ring 28 bears tightly against theinlet sheath 23 that is gathered about the shank of thenozzle 24 and forms a liquidtight connection.Openings 29 are provided in the sealed portion of the plastic bag B.

The pouch P is supported by a front andrear strap 28 and 29 having one end cemented or otherwise secured to the outer surface of the front and rear ends respectively, of the pouch P, the other ends of thestraps 28 and 29 form aloop 32 that receives a leg of a conventional S-type clip 33. The other leg of theclip 33 is received by aloop 34 of astrap 35 which extends over abelt 37 worn about the users waist. The other end of thestrap 35 extends through an adjustingbuckle 36 positioned on thestrap 35 so that the user may adjust the proper positioning of the pouch P and maintain same at that position at all times.

In the normal use of my body-worn urinal 10 for women when sitting, walking, or standing, the pouch P is placed with thedrain 14, 15 in the forward position as shown by FIG. 2, between the thighs in the groin section with the relatively large member bearing against and imbedded into the soft flesh of the groins. With thebelt 37 about the users waist, theloops 32 received the S-type clips 33 and thebuckles 36 tightened to maintain the pouch P in position against the user's groins and adjusts the straps S on thebelt 37 to maintain the pouch snug against the groins. Then the user wears any garment such as a dress, slip, night shirt orapron 40 in which there is apocket 41 on the inside front surface thereof. On the inside surface of thepocket 41 is a pair offemale snap 42 that receives appropriately positionedmale snaps 43 mounted on the inner surfaceof thegarment 40. The user of my urinal 10 places the plastic bag B in thepocket 41 of theapron 40. If the user is standing, sitting or walking, theapron 40 will be positioned in front of the user, with thepocket 41 directly below the pouch P. With the pouch P positioned as shown by FIG. 2, thedrain 14 being forwardly positioned will drain off any urine in the pouch P since the pouch is inclined upwardly in the direction of the rear of the user. The plastic bag B is then placed in thepocket 41 with themale straps 43 received by theopenings 29 and thefemale snaps 42 engaging themale snaps 43. The plastic bag B is thusly suspended to permit the bag to hang uprightand the easy ingress of urine therein and also prevent the collapsing of the thin film plastic bag B.

Now,-when urine is passed by the user, it flows into the pouch P, flows downwardly along the bottom all 13, into the drain opening 14, throughdrain pipe 15, 18 and be discharged by thenozzle 24 into theflutter valve 22 where it drips through into the plastic bag B. When the bag B is to be replaced, thesnaps 42, 43 are disengaged from each other and the plastic bag B removed from thepocket 41. The O-ring 28 is then rolled upwardly along thepipe 18 and'away from theinlet sheath 23. With the plastic bag B removed from the device 10, theplastic clip 21 is removed to release the discharge tube 19. The plasticbag B is then disposedof after the urine is evacuated from the plastic bag B through the outlet tube 19. An unused plastic bag B is then replaced in the urinal 10 by inserting thenozzle 24 into theinlet sheath 23 and the O-ring 28 rolled down to engage thesheath 23 against theshoulder 27. The function of theshoulder 27 is to determine the proper positioning of thenozzle 24 in theflutter valve 22 since the shoulders prevent the insertion of thenozzle 24 beyond the position shown by FIGS. 6 and 7. If thenozzle 24 were inserted any deeper into theflutter valve 22, the latter would interfere with the proper operation of theflutter valve 22 and permit the flow of urine from the bag B back to the pipe 18'. Also, theshoulder 27 provides a stop for the O-ring and cooperates with thesheath 23 and O-ring to hold pipe 18' securely in place.

If a person using the urinal l wishes to lie down, she removes thestraps 28, 29 from theslide clip 33 and reverses the position of the pouch P to that shown by FIG. 3, the drain opening 14 now being disposed rearwardly of the user and the apron orother garment 40 will be positioned so that thepocket 41 is under or to the rear of the user who is now lying down. The urine will flow by gravity from the pouch P throughpipes 15, 18 and into the plastic bag B.

I When it is desired to wash and sanitize the urinal 10, the latter is completely dismantled into its component parts. Thestraps 28, 29 are removed from the S-clips 33 and the fittings can now be sanitized and washed. A small diametered bristle brush twined in wire may be used in conjunction with detergent to cleanse and sanitize thedischarge tubs 15, 18 and thenozzle 24 andfittings 16, 17.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A body-worn urinal for women comprising a substantially elongated pouch having a resilient cylindrical member extending circumferentially about the open portion thereof with walls extending downwardly in a direction toward each other to a bottom wall, adjustable strap means secured at one end to the front and rear wall of said pouch and at the other end to a belt for securing said pouch in position at the groins with said cylindrical member being in snug engagement with the soft tissue of the groins, said pouch having a drain opening at one end of said bottom wall, drain pipe means connected at one end to said drain opening, a nozzle secured at the other end of said drain pipe means substantially remote from said one end, a plastic bag having an inlet, a flutter valve, mounted in said inlet, a plastic funnel-shaped sheath extending outwardly of said inlet, said nozzle received by said inlet, shoulder means mounted on said nozzle engaging said plastic bag at said inlet, said sheath being wrapped around said nozzle at said shoulder and an O-ring mounted about said nozzle at said shoulder rendering said connection leakproof.

2. The structure as recited by claim 1 wherein said ad ustable strap means comprise a plurality of straps having a loop at one end and secured to the front and rear of said pouch at the other end, an S-type clip having a leg portion engaging each of said loops, an adjustable strap engaging the other leg portion of said S-type clip and extending to said belt.

3. The structure as recited by claim 1 wherein said disposable plastic bag consists of a pair of sheets of plastic material heat sealed along their edge portions forming and enclosed chamber, an outlet opening positioned at the upper side edge of said plastic bag, an outlet pipe connected to said outlet opening, said outlet pipe being folded on itself and a clip slidably positioned on said folded outlet pipe preventing the discharge of liquid therethrough.

4. The structure as recited by claim 1 taken in combination with a garment adapted to be worn'by said female, a pocket in said garment and means mounted on said pocket and said garment and engaging said plastic bag for maintaining said plastic bag in an upright position.

Claims (4)

1. A body-worn urinal for women comprising a substantially elongated pouch having a resilient cylindrical member extending circumferentially about the open portion thereof with walls extending downwardly in a direction toward each other to a bottom wall, adjustable strap means secured at one end to the front and rear wall of said pouch and at the other end to a belt for securing said pouch in position at the groins with said cylindrical member being in snug engagement with the soft tissue of the groins, said pouch having a drain opening at one end of said bottom wall, drain pipe means connected at one end to said drain opening, a nozzle secured at the other end of said drain pipe means substantially remote from said one end, a plastic bag having an inlet, a flutter valve, mounted in said inlet, a plastic funnel-shaped sheath extending outwardly of said inlet, said nozzle received by said inlet, shoulder means mounted on said nozzle engaging said plastic bag at said inlet, said sheath being wrapped around said nozzle at said shoulder and an O-ring mounted about said nozzle at said shoulder rendering said connection leakproof.

2. The structure as recited by claim 1 wherein said adjustable strap means comprise a plurality of straps having a loop at one end and secured to the front and rear of said pouch at the other end, an S-type clip having a leg portion engaging each of said loops, an adjustable strap engaging the other leg portion of said S-type clip and extending to said belt.

3. The structure as recited by claim 1 wherein said disposable plastic bag consists of a pair of sheets of plastic material heat sealed along their edge portions forming and enclosed chamber, an outlet opening positioned at the upper side edge of said plastic bag, an outlet pipe connected to said outlet opening, said outlet pipe being folded on itself and a clip slidably positioned on said folded outlet pipe preventing the discharge of liquid therethrough.

4. The structure as recited by claim 1 taken in combination with a garment adapted to be worn by said female, a pocket in said garment and means mounted on said pocket and said garment and engaging said plastic bag for maintaining said plastic bag in an upright position.
