IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET SKIRT-SUPAPORTERS.

VSpecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,930, dated July 22, 1862.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, Lav-INIA H. FoY, of the city and county of Worcester, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset Skirt-Supporters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication, and in which Figure l represents a perspective View of my improved corset skirt-supporter, Figs. 2 and 3, detached parts; and Fig. 4, a modication of the shoulder-straps.

In the drawings, A, Fig. 2, and B B, Fig. 3, represent the form of the parts from which the waist and skirtsupporting parts are formed, the two latter being provided with eyelets for lacing, as clearly indicated in the drawings. In ordinary cases I use iive pieces like that represented in Fig. 2, and two like those represented in Fig. 3, said parts being cut larger or smaller to suit the desired size. Owing Vto the Vpeculiar shape ot' the parts A when they are sewed or stitched together, as seen in Fig. l, the lower part, C, is caused to project outin a horizontal position, while the upper part, D,

, stands in a vertical position.

The outer edge of the horizontal part C is kept in form by a hoop, E.

It will be observed that the parts A are cut straight across the top a, and straight about half-way down the edges b, thence goring to the lower edge, c, which scut rounding, as fully shown in the drawings.

The shoulder-straps F F, where they connect with the back of the waist, are cut straight, butcurve outward as they approximate the shoulders, whereby an easy and firm adjustment is obtained, together with a good fit.

If desirable to provide for greater adjustment, the same pattern of straps may be made with eyelets, as seen in Fig. 4, whereby the straps can be laced so as to be thrown still'farther offof the shoulders;.but in this latter case it would be well to brace them -byinserting elastics dddd between them and the back o1' the waist. Elastics e e are also inserted between the back and front straps to give greater ease in the movement of the arms and shoulders. The front straps are fastened to the waist by means of buckles, as indicated in the drawings.

The front pieces, B B, maybe provided with strips of whalebone whenever desired.

My improved corset skirt-supporter keeps firmly in place, thereby retaining all garments worn over it in proper position.

It relieves the back and hips of that great Weight of clothing which fashion imposes, protects the stomach from the pressure of numerous belts. By relieving the hips and body of a great weight of clothing an easy and graceful gait is promoted, while its use adds much to the elegance of form.

Having described my improvement, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A corset skirtsupporter constructed substantially as represented in Fig. 1.
