APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATICALLY DISCHARGING URINE Filed March 22, 1968 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR. NH 5 HK/tfl/ KLSH/Ml) T0 United States Patent US. Cl. 4-110 7 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus for automatically discharging urine is comprised of a portable urinal interconnected by flexible conduits and electric cable with a suction pump, an electric motor and an electromagnetic valve for alternatively and selectively withdrawing liquid waste from the urinal and for supplying wash water into the urinal. The container has a lid covering an opening through which urine is received into the urinal and a lever is connected to the lid for ease in displacing it into the open position. A pair of electric switches are mounted together on the side of the urinal for operating the suction pump and the valve for removing liquid waste from the urinal and for supplying Wash water into the urinal. The liquid waste is conveyed from the urinal to a reservoir from which it is subsequently emptied.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an improved apparatus for automatically discharging urine whereby urine discharged into a portable urinal is conveyed to a reservoir by the action of suction pump and thereafter is emptied from the reservoir.
The object of this invention is to provide a very useful apparatus for discharging urine which can be easily operated by a person who is infirm because of age or illness by using only one hand for the operation of two switches, the one for electrically initiating the suction pump and the other for operating a valve for Wash water.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description of a presently preferred embodiment thereof, which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
IN THE DRAWINGS- FIG. 1 is a side view of a urinal according to the present invention, and
FIG. 2 is a side view of an apparatus embodying the present invention for discharging urine from the urinal shown in FIG. 1.
Referring to the drawing, the apparatus for discharging urine comprises a portable urinal 1 having anopening 2 arranged to be directed towards privy parts. Theopening 2 is closed with alid 4 which may be opened by alever 3 attached thereto. The urinal is also provided at the top with a wash water inlet opening 8 connected to awash water pipe 7 and at the bottom with a urine outlet opening 6 connected to aurine discharge pipe 5.
As shown in FIG. 2, in addition to the urinal 1, the apparatus for discharging urine according to this invention also comprises a main body having a urine reservoir 9, aWash water tank 10, asuction pump 11, anelectric motor 12, a device 13 for absorbing foul odors and an electro-rnagnetic valve 14 for changing from the suction of urine into that of water in the tank Theurine discharge pipe 5 is connected to a urine inlet opening 15 leading into the reservoir 9, the opening having a one way valve. Thewash water pipe 7 is in communication with thewash water tank 10 by means of the electro-magnetic valve 14.
Thecable 16 of the electric circuits for themotor 12 and the electro-magnetic valve 14 is united in a flexible bundle with theurine discharge pipe 5 and thewash water pipe 7 and is connected to amotor switch 17 and aswitch 18 for the electromagnetic valve, both of which are mounted together on one side of the urinal 1. Switch 17 starts and stops themotor 12 and switch 18 opens and closes the electro-magnetic valve 14.
As is obvious from the above description themotor 12 and the electro-magneticvalve 14 are operable by theswitches 17, 18 mounted on the urinal 1, so that any person who is infirm due to age or illness can easily operate the apparatus for the automatic disposal of urine.
While specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the inventive principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.
What is claimed is:
1. A portable apparatus for automatically disposing of urine comprises a container serving as a urinal and having an opening for receiving urine therein, an outlet from said container for discharging liquid waste therefrom, an inlet spaced from said outlet for delivering wash water into said container, a liquid Waste reservoir remote from said container, a first conduit interconnecting the outlet from said container and said reservoir, a wash water tank disposed remote from said container, a second conduit interconnecting the inlet to said container and said wash water tank, and means for selectively alternatively withdrawing waste liquid from said container into said urine reservoir and for supplying Wash water from said tank into said container.
2. A portable apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein a lid is arranged for closing the opening in said container, means for pivotally attaching said lid to said container, and a lever is secured to said means for ease in displacing the lid from said opening.
3. A portable apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein said container has a rounded shape with the opening for receiving urine in the upper portion thereof, said outlet from said container located in the lower portion thereof, and said inlet for wash water located in the top portion of said container.
4. A portable apparatus as set forth in claim 1, wherein said means for withdrawing waste liquid from and for supplying wash water to said container comprises a suction pump, an electric motor for operating said suction pump, and an electromagnetic valve having a first position for withdrawing liquid waste from said container and a second position for supplying wash water into said container, said pump, electric motor and valve mounted together as a unit.
5. A portable apparatus as set forth inclaim 4, wherein a first electric switch and a second electric switch are mounted together on said container, an electric cable interconnecting said switches and said electric motor and valve, said first switch arranged to start and stop said electric motor and said second switch arranged to selectively dispose said valve in one of its first and second positions.
6. A portable apparatus as set forth inclaim 5, wherein said container is flexibly and portably secured to said unit comprised of said suction pump electric motor and valve by means of said electric cable and said first and second conduits.
