UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
O. A. OODDING, 0F AUGUSTA, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHEESE-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,241 dated January 28, 1862.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, O. A. OODDING, of Augusta, Kalamazoo county, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cheese-Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A represents a hoop or cylinder, which is made of metal and perforated around its periphery with numerous small holes for the escape of whey, said cylinder being hollow and without heads, as represented.
B represents a plunger, constructed as seen, and with a perforated bottom, and with air-holes x w in its periphery, said plunger being provided with a tube D, as shown, to give it strength to bear pressure upon it.
0 represents the hollow bottom, which is also provided with a tube 0'.
The head in its upper end is perforated, as shown. The bottom slides into the bottom or lower end of the cylinder, while the plunger slides into the upper end. The curd is placed between the bottom head and the plunger and weight is placed upon the plunger, the whey escaping through the perforations.
Wires are inserted in the metal of the cylinder as well as the plunger and bottom, for giving strength and durability.
The great advantages of this arrangement are, the bottom being movable can be turned and adjusted to prevent clogging of its perforations and can be removed in order the more easily to remove the cheese after it is pressed.
A portion of this press has already been patented to me; hence my improvement in this case relates more particularly to the adjustable bottom when used in connection with what has been previously patented.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The employment of theadjustable bottom 0, constructed as set forth, in combination with the hoop or cylinder A and perforated plunger B, arranged and operating as and for the purpose specified.
C. A. CODDING.
