THERAPEUTIC MASSAGING DEVICE Filed Aug. 14, 1965 FIG.5
FIG. I
:5 6 FIG.4
*ii v I 2 INVENTOR- HARRY .S. KRIMMEL FIG.2 BY
United States Patent 3,279,463 THERAPEUTIC MASSAGING DEVICE Harry S. Krimrnel, 510 Seminole Drive, Erie, Pa. Filed Aug. 14, 1963, Ser. No. 302,131 2 Claims. (Cl. 128-62) This invention relates to therapeutic devices and, more particularly, to the type of therapeutic device known as a back scratcher.
Various types of devices for scratching or massaging the human back have been provided wherein a scratching or massaging member is attached to an elongated handle. These devices are difiicult to use and inconvenient to retain in storage. It has been discovered that by providing a suitable back scratcher and attaching it to a door frame or the like, the scratcher can be made simple in construction and will be convenient to use and economical to manufacture.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide an improved therapeutic device.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved device for scratching and massaging the human back.
A further object of the invention is to provide a back scratcher which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and efiicient to use.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is an enlarged partial view of a device according to the invention;
FIG. 2 shows the invention supported for use;
FIG. 3 is an enlarged top view of the device;
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of the pintle; and
FIG. 5 is an end view of the device.
Now with more particular reference to the drawing, a back scratcher which is generally a therapeutic device, is indicated generally at 10. The device has two plate likemembers 11 and 12 which are integrally attached together along one longitudinal end and are generally at right angles to each other.
Pintle members 13, 14, 15, and 16 are integrally attached to the plate likemembers 11 and 12 and extend therefrom parallel to each other and spaced from each other in longitudinal rows as indicated. The pintle members are generally cylindrical and taper from the end adjacent the plate likemembers 11 and 12 to the outer end and terminate in a generallyspherical end 17.
Thedevice 10 may be attached to a support such as the corner of a door frame as shown in FIG. 2. It may be at tached thereto by any convenient fastening means such asscrews 18 which may extend into the door frame or it could be attached by any suitable adhesive. The device may be attached with its upper end slightly above the 3,279,463 Patented Oct. 18, 1966 "ice shoulder height of the average individual so that a person can scratch, massage, or otherwise treat his back easily and conveniently thereon.
The device may be approximately eighteen inches long, for example. Thepintle members 13 to 16 may be, for example, one inch long and they may be spaced, for example, one-fourth inch. The rows themselves may be spaced one-fourth inch, for example. The pintle members at the ends of the rows may be slightly shorter than the other and the length of the pintle members may increase gradually from the end toward the center. There could be a single row on each side instead of the two rows shown. The plate likemembers 11 and 12 could be about one inch wide and the entire device could be molded from polyethylene material or other suitable material which can be injection molded. It could also be made of metal or other suitable material.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the ap pended claims.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A therapeutic device comprising two plate like members disposed at right angles to each other and integrally attached together,
each said plate like member having a first and a second side, and pintle members integrally attached to said first sides of said plate like members and extending therefrom in the same direction and parallel to each other,
said second sides of said plate like members being disposed at right angles to each other,
said device having means thereon for attaching it to the corner of a door frame.
2. The device recited in claim 1 wherein said pintle members are generally cylindrical in shape,
slightly tapering in a direction away from said plate like members, and terminating in a generally hemispherical end,
said therapeutic device being adapted to be attached to the corner of a support such as a door frame at approximity shoulder height whereby humans can contact said device with their bodies.
