ANTHONY FLANSBURGH, OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
GRAPPLE FOR LIFTING AND MOVING BARRELS.
FJEECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 311,l-78, dated February 3, 1885.
Application filed December 10, 1884.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ANTHONY FLANSBURGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saratoga Springs, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grapples for Lifting and Moving Barrels, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my improved grapple, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing it in use upon a barrel.
The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in that class ofgrapples used for lifting and carrying barrels and other like objects; and it consists in the details of construction substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents two horizontal bars, either of wood or metal, the extremities of which form the handles of the grapple.
To the bars A are suitably connected frames B, which are pivoted together at a to enable them to be extended the required distance to grasp the object to be lifted and moved. The lower portion of the frames B, or that part that comes in contact with the object, I make of such shape as to correspond therewith.
In Fig. 2 is shown a barrel, and to accom- (N'o model.)
modate the frames to the convexity of the 5 barrel I curve the frames as shown at b, so as to more effectually and securely fasten itself thereto, and the greater the weight of the object the more firmly the grapple will take hold thereof when raised from the ground, thus providing a very simple and effective device for lifting and carrying barrels filled with apples, potatoes, flour, &e., or any other ob jects of like character.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Agrapple for lifting and carrying barrels and other objects, consisting of two horizontal and parallel bars the extremities of which form the handles, and two frames connected thereto and pivoted together, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A grapple for lifting and carrying barrels and other objects, consisting of two horizontal and parallel bars and two frames connected thereto and pivoted together, the lower portion of said frames being curved to correspond in form to the obj cot to be lifted and carried, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ANTHONY FLANSBURGH.
