(Cl. 13246) This invention relates to a hair securing device which is designed to hold a pony tail in place upon the head of a girl or woman.

The instant invention is considably more advantageous than such devices used in the past because it is simple and inexpensive in construction and is automatically adjustable.

Other objects and advantages of the instant invention will become apparent to the reader of this specification and will be set forth in the appended claim.

The invention will be further described by reference to the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this specification.

FIG. 1 is a plan view of a hair securing device made in accordance with this invention.

FIG. 2 is a side view thereof.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view thereof taken along lines 3-3 of FIG. 2.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the hair securing device of this invention in place upon the head of a wearer, the device being shown as securing a pony tail in place.

FIG. 5 is a sectional view of the invention shown in FIG. 4 taken along lines 5-5 of FIG. 4.

Referring now to the specific form of the invention as set forth in the accompanying drawings, the hair securing device of this invention '11 is formed with asupport 12. Support v12 is provided with an opening 13 adjacent each of thecorners 14 thereof.

Approximately in the center ofsupport 12 isprojection 15 which is formed with an overhanging roofpor' tion 16.

First flexible hair embraceable member '17 is formed with forwardly extending bifurcatedportions 18 and is secured to support 12. Bifurcatedportions 18 are in turn secured at their portions forward ofsupport 12 byfirst junction member 19.First junction member 19 in turn secures second hairembraceable member 20 which in turn is divided into forwardly extending bifurcatedportions 2 1.Second junction member 22 is forward offirst junction member 19 and secures the forward bifurcately-extendingportions 21 of second hairembraceable member 20 to one another.

In opera-tion base portion 12 is placed alongside thepony tail 23 of the wearer and first hairembraceable member 18 wrapped around the saidpony tail 23 until theportion 24 immediately rearward offirst junction member 19 is brought into engageable position withprojection 15 uponsupport 12. At this point the device remains in place as shown in FIG. 5. The device is grasped by the user by holding second hair embraceable Patented Mar. 19, 1963member 20 by its bifurcatedportions 21 which allows the device to be easily wrapped around the hair of the user. If, on the other hand, the hair has a larger diameter than can be conveniently accommodated by the engagement of the portions previously referred to, it is also possible to engage thearea 26 immediately behindsecond junction member 22 withprojection 15.

In order to obtain the best operation of the instant device and to insure that the device will remain about the hair of the wearer in firm position and will not be acci dentally displaced, it is preferable to make first hairembraceable member 17 of elastic material and, in order to further improve the operation of the device, it is preferable to make second hairembraceable member 20 also of elastic material.

The foregoing specific description indicates the manner in which the objects of this invention have been achieved and the operation thereof but the reader is cautioned to note that the specific embodiments and modifications of this invention set forth in the specification herein are for purposes of illustration and for purposes of example only. Various changes and modifications may obviously be made Within the spirit and scope of this invention and would occur to those skilled in this art.

I claim:

A hair securing device comprising a substantially square support, a projection centrally disposed thereupon, an overhanging roof portion upon said projection, said support being provided with an opening adjacent each corner thereof, a first elastic hair embraceable member passing through said openings above and below said support secured to said support, and bifurcately extending forwardly therefrom, a first junction member joining the forward portions of said bifurcated portions of said first hair embraceable member to one another, a second elastic hair embraceable member secured to said first hair embraceable member by said first junction member and bifurcately extending forwardly therefrom, a second junction member joining the forward ends of said second hair embraceable member to one another, the portions of said hair embraceable members rearward of said first and second junction members being selectively engageable with said projection upon said support.
