G. R. MOORE.
Fire Poker.-
Patented July 24, 1860.
' I IwanZ-o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE R. MOORE, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIRE-POKER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,298, dated July 24, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, GEO. R. MOORE, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Fire-Pokers; and I do hereby declare that the followin is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to obtain the horizontal motion of the poker by a mode that disallows the possibility of its clamping, or binding itself as a wrench upon its axis, or in its bearings when pressure is applied to the handle for moving it sidewise as required in moving the prongs from one set of bars to another in the grate.
The figure is a perspective view and shows the combination of bars and joints by which the object is obtained.
(a a) are simple bars attached to the frame (1)) by pivots (c 0).
The axis of the poker is connected by loose joints to the bars at (01 (Z) and hangs, in part, below the frame (1)) and disconnected except at (d cl).
It will now be seen that a sidewise pressure upon the handle (it) will not cause the axis (6) of the poker to act as a wrench in its bearings (cZ (Z) and thus clamp itself; but the bars (a a) will turn upon the pivots (c c) and thus the poker be made to move upon its frame (Z2) from side to side without clamping.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The use of the bars (a a) or their equivalent to prevent the poker from clamping.
GEO. R. MOORE.
