3 Claims. (Cl. 13232) This invention relates to a hair device with an absorbent pad, and more particularly to devices for forming ringlets, curls or waves.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a device that will facilitate forming the hair in the shape or manner desired by application of a hair lotion or other desired hair treatment liquid or substance to" the hair during the formative period while the device is retained in the hair.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a hair clip embodying the invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;

Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view;

Fig. 4 is a view of the clip in open position to receive the hair;

Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and,

Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.

In the form shown, the device comprises a hair clip having two bifurcatedarms 11 and 12, each havingfinger pieces 13 and 14 at one end, which finger pieces are preferably integral parts of the arms. At the sides of thefinger piece 13 areears 15 which overlapsimilar ears 16 formed on thefinger piece 14, the two sets of ears being pivotally secured together by pins orstuds 17. Disposed between the finger pieces is aspring 18 having its ends bearing against the two finger pieces respectively. In the present instance, thespring 18 is a leaf spring although a coil spring may be used, in which event the pivot would extend across from one pair of ears to the other and the spring would be coiled about the pivot.

Mounted on the arm 11 is a supportingelement 19. In the present instance that member is in the form of a ring or circle having across-arm 20 at the middle of which is an enlargedcentral portion 21. While this is a simple way of attaching the supporting element to the arm of the clip, any othef suitable means of effecting that purpose may be usedt Supported on theelement 19 is a pad orbody 24 of sponge rubber or other suitable sponge-like material that will absorb and hold a quantity of a desired hair lotion, liquid, or substance to be applied to the hair when the device is inserted in and closed on the hair to be waved or curled. As shown, the pad may be perforated at intervals to permit of circulation of air that will facilitate setting the hair. The pad may be fixed to the supporting element in any suitable way, as, for example, by theeyelet 25 that extends through the center of the pad and through the centralcircular portion 21 of the cross-bar of the supporting member, as best seen in Figs. 4 and 5.

While I have shown and illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that modifications may be made therein within the scope of the invention.

What I claim is:

1. A hair device of the character described, comprising a pair of pivotally connected spring pressed bifurcated arms each having a finger piece at its rear end, the bifurcated portions of one of the arms being connected by a cross-bar adjacent its front end, a supporting element secured to the inner face of the last mentioned arm, said supporting element having a pair of tongues that are clamped respectively over the cross-bar and over the inner end of the finger piece of said arm, and a pad of absorbent material fixed to the supporting element.

A hair device of the character described, comprising a pair of pivotally connected spring pressed arms each having a finger piece at its rear end, one of said arms being bifurcated to provide a cross-bar, a supporting element mounted on the inner face of the bifurcated arm and the cross-bar thereof, means for securing the supporting member on the crossbar of the bifurcated arm, and a pad of absorbent material mounted upon the supporting element.

A hair device of the character described, comprising a pair of pivotally connected spring pressed arms each having a finger piece at its rear end, one of said arms being bifurcated in order to permit of easy insertion of 'said one of said arms into hair, a supporting element disposed on the inner face of the other said arms, means for securing said supporting element to the other of said arms, and a pad of absorbent material mounted upon said supporting element.
