3 Claims. (Cl. 2 5) This invention relates to improvements in dress shields adapted to be worn in the armpits to protect the adjacent portions of the body and sleeves of a garment under the arms from being soiled by perspiration.

An object of the present invention is to provide a dress shield including a square holder made of textile fabric and providing a pair of integrally joined triangular pockets having adjacent entrances located diagonally of the-holder, and an absorbent pad removably disposed in said pockets and composed of a plurality of absorbent tissues. The holder comprises a square piece of cloth, and two triangular sheets disposed on each triangular half of said square piece of cloth and each stitched along two of its edges to adjacent edges of said square piece of cloth. Each triangular sheet is preferably of double thickness and preferably consists of a diagonally folded square piece of cloth. Thus, the holder is of simple and durable construction and may be readily laundered upon removal of the pad, and the pad may be readily removed from the holder and discarded for replacement by a new pad when desired. The pieces of cloth are preferably cut so that their threads run parallel with their edges, and means is provided to hold the shield in place in the armpit which includes an elastic shoulder strap secured at one end to one corner of the holder coincident with the juncture of the pockets and detachably connected at the other end to the other corner of the holder coincident with said juncture, whereby the shoulder strap exerts a pull on the bias of the pieces of cloth to stretch and draw the holder snugly in the armpit. This means also preferably includes fasteners carried by the shoulder strap of the shield and engageable with the shoulder strap of a brassiere or other garment worn by the user, at the front and back of said user, to hold the first-named shoulder strap on the shoulder and prevent forward or rearward shifting of the shield.

The nature and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description when considered with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a front pictorial view showing the present shield in use;

Figure 2 is a rear view similar to Figure 1;

Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the shield conditioned as in use;

Figure 4 is a plan view of the shield in fiat condition; and,

Figure 5 is an enlarged section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the present dress shield includes a substantiallysquare holder 5 made of textile fabric and providing a pair of integrally joined substantiallytriangular pockets 6 and 1 having adjacent entrances'located at 8 diagonally of the holder, and anabsorbent pad 9 removably disposed in said pockets and composed of a plurality of absorbent tissues.

The holder comprises a square piece of cloth l0, and two triangular sheets ll disposed on each triangular half of the piece of cloth l0 and each stitched along two of its edges as at [2 to adjacent edges of said piece of cloth. Each sheet H is preferably of double thickness and consists of a diagonally folded square piece of cloth, as shown.

The piece of cloth l0 and those forming the sheets I l are cut so that their threads run parallel with their edges, as indicated.

Means is provided to hold the shield in place in the armpit, such means including an elastic and adjustable strap [3 secured at one end as at M to one corner of the holder coincident with the juncture of the pockets. A hook I5 is carried by the other end of strap l3 and detachably engageable with a loop l6 attached to the other corner of the holder coincident with said juncture, whereby the shoulder strap will exert a pull on the bias of the cloth to stretch and draw the holder snugly in the armpit. Thehook 15 forms part of a combined fastener comprising a plate I] having a slot l8 receiving aloop 19 of strap l3 and on which the hook is integrally formed. Also integral with and projecting laterally from the plate II at a right angle to hook I5 is asecond hook 20 engageable with the shoulder strap 2| of a brassiere orother garment 22 worn by the user of the shield, at the front of the user, to help keep the strap l3 over the shoulder. The bill ofhook 20 is bifurcated to provide a pair ofprongs 23 adapted to penetrate the strap 2| so as to prevent forward or backward shifting of the shield. Aclasp 24 is carried by and projects laterally from thestrap 13 adjacent the end of the latter which is secured to theholder 5, said clasp being engageable with the strap 2| at the back of the wearer to aid in keeping the strap l3 over the shoulder.

It will be seen that the present dress shield is simple in construction, easy to use, eflicient in use, and comfortable to wear. Minor changes in construction are contemplated within the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a dress shield, a substantially square absorbent pad holder made of textile fabric and providing a pair of integrally joined substantially triangular pockets having adjacent entrances located diagonally of the holder and adapted to receive an absorbent pad, said holder comprising a square piece of cloth, and two triangular sheets disposed on each triangular half of said piece of cloth and each stitched along two of its edges to adjacent edges of said piece of cloth, each of said sheets being of double thickness and: comprising a diagonally folded square piece of cloth.

2. In a dress shield, a substantially square absorbent pad holder made of textile fabric and 4 sorbent pad holder made of textile fabric and providing a pair of integrally joined substantially triangular pockets having adjacent entrances located diagonally of the holder and adapted to receive an absorbent pad, said holder comprising a square piece of cloth, and two triangular sheets disposed on each triangular half of said piece of cloth and each stitched along two of its edges to adjacent edges of said piece of cloth, an adjustable elastic shoulder strap attached at one end to one corner of the holder coincident with the juncture of the pockets, and means to detachably "connect the other end of said shoulder strap to triangular pockets having adjacent entrances located diagonally of the holder and adapted to receive an absorbent pad, said holder comprising" a square piece of cloth, and two triangular sheets disposed on each triangular half of said piece of cloth and each stitched along two of its edges to adjacent edges of said piece of clothi each-of said sheets being of double thickness and comprising a; diagonally folded square piece of" cloth, and an elastic shoulder strap connected at its ends'to opposite corners of the holder coincident with the juncture of the pockets, said pieces of cloth being cut so that their threads run parallel with their edges and so that the shoulder strap exerts a bias pull on the holder.
