DENTAL IMPRESSION-CUP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,038, dated April 25, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES V. MOMANN, of Waverly, in the county of Pike and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Impression-Cups for Dental Use, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification.

-This invention relates to separable cups for holding plaster in taking impressions of the gums where artificial sets of teeth are required.

The invention consists of a sectional cup formed in two parts, which are pivoted together in such manner that they shall be adapted to close to diminish the normal width of the cup and to be readily taken apart when desired.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the cup, showing the under side; and Fig. 2, a view of the sections detached from each other.

The cup is divided through the center of the handle, forming two sections, A A, of nearly equal size, one of which has a lip, B, fitting into a recess, G, in the other and seoured therein by means of a screw, D. The parts are thus pivoted together near the base of the handle, and the recess 0 is made large enough to allow the lip B to oscillate slightly therein when the sides of the cup are compressed together; and to allow this movement patient, and by means of the screw the size of V the cup may be adjusted to fit the gums. After the impression is taken the sections are to be taken apart to remove the cast.

I am aware that it is not broadly new to construct an impression-cup of two detachable sections for the purpose of facilitating the removal of the cast; but I am not aware that such a cup has before been made adjustablein width, as above described.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

An impression-cup eonsistin g of the sections A A, beveled at their adjacent edges, and having respectively the lip B and recess 0, and the screw D, all combined, substantially as shown and described, whereby the sections may be adjusted to and from each other for convenience in use, as set forth.
