'1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in portfolios for solicitors of contributions for charitable organizations and the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed, light weight, serviceable device of the character indicated for containing identification records of subscribers to solicitations by charitable and like organizations, and which is especially designed to contain various items for distribution to identify subscribers with the soliciting organization, or the like.
Other and subordinate objects, within the purview of my invention, together with the precise nature of my improvements will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claim are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of the blank of which my improved portfolio is formed;
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of the portfolio opened;
Figure 3 is a similar view of the portfolio closed and drawn to a smaller scale;
Figure 4 is a view in vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3 and drawn to a larger scale;
Figure 5 is a view in transverse section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3 and drawn to a larger scale.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, my improved portfolio is formed from a blank I of heavy cardboard, or the like, and which, as shown in Figure 1, is substantially rectangular in shape and comprises a maincover forming portion 2 with a relatively narrower and shorter bottompocket forming portion 3 foldable over thecover portion 2 along afold line 4 extending at a right angle to thesides 5 of said blank I. Thecover forming portion 2 and thepocket forming portion 3 are foldable along a pair of closely spaced,parallel fold lines 6 substantially mid-way between thesides 5 and parallel therewith. Thecover forming portion 2 is provided at eachside 5 of the blank I with a narrow marginal fiap 1 for holding thepocket forming portion 3 in folded position and adapted to be folded over saidportion 3 at thesides 5 of said blank I. Thecover forming portion 2 is also provided at eachside 5 thereof with amarginal flap 8 foldable over saidportion 2 for a purpose presently seen. The flaps I, 8 at each side ofthecover forming portion 2 are foldable along lines 9 aligned with the sides of thepocket forming portion 3. Theflap forming portion 3 is provided at one side of the fold along thelines 6 into book form.
each extending at a right angle to thesides 5 of the blank I, and which are staggered relatively all for a purpose presently apparent.
To fold the blank I into a portfolio, thepocket formingportion 3 is first folded over thecover forming portion 2 along theline 4 and stapled to saidportion 2 between thefold lines 6 as at H. The flaps I are next folded over the sides'of thepocket forming portion 3, which is to say,-; at thesides 5 of the blank I, and are adhesively secured to saidpocket forming portion 3. Theflaps 8 are next folded over the cover formingP tion 2, in the same manner as the flaps l, and adhesively secured thereto. Thecover forming portion 2 and thepocket forming portions 3 are then-"folded By folding and fastening the blank [in the manner described, a portfolio is provided, as shown in Figures 2 to 5 with thecover forming portion 2 providing a cover [2 folda'blejntermediate the free side edges thereof into open and closed position, with the cover I2, theflap forming portions 3 and the flaps 1 and staples ll forming a pair of bottom pockets I3, in said portfolio at opposite sides of the vertical center of the portfolio. The'free side edges of the cover l2 are reinforced by theflaps 6, 1, and thepocket forming portion 3 is attached to the cover l2 by theflaps 6 and the staples ll so as to reinforce the cover l2 against undue bending.
One of the pockets, l3, may be used to ccntain lists, not shown, of contributing subscribers and printed instructions, as at 15, may be delineated on said pocket to be followed by a solicitor in a soliciting campaign. The other pocket It is provided with the slots l0, H, l2 in the front thereof through which identification stickers and membership cards and pin and coin envelopes, not shown, may be inserted into the pocket H to extend part-way out of the slots for easy' Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modifications, without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, claimed as new is:
