The present invention relates to a catamenial diaper and its consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.

Generally there is provided a catamenial diaper formed of an elongated pad of fabricated sponge rubber or the like having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having a plurality of vertical openings extending from the top to the chamber. The lower half of the walls of the chamber is provided with a coating of moisture-proof material and a strap of rubberized fabric extends along the bottom of the chamber and outwardly of each end of the pad and is provided with an eyelet adjacent each end thereof to provide easy means of attachment to the conventional sanitary belt. The interior of the chamber is occupied by a cellulose lm sponge adapted t hold liquids and moisture in such a manner as to effectively seal the same from air and body warmth, thus effectively preventing the deterioration thereof which is the usual cause of obnoxious odors. The device is capable of quick and easy cleaning with ordinary soap and water and is ready for immediate use thereafter.

It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet eiective and efficient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a catamenial diaper formed as a single unitary device.

A further object of the invention is the provision, in a device of the character set forth, of novel storing and sealing means for liquids, which means form a part of the invention.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a novel combination supporting strap and reinforcing strip forming a part of the invention.

Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:

Referring more particularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a catamenial diaper comprising an elongated body I formed of sponge rubber or the like and having a longitudinally extending chamber centrally disposed therein. A plurality of openings I2 extend vertically from the top of the body to the chamber II.

The lower half of the walls of the chamber II is covered with a coating of moisture-proof material, as indicated at I3 and a strip I4 of rubberized fabric extends along the bottom of the chamber II, preferably being vulcanized thereto, and thence outwardly of either end thereof and is provided with an eyelet I5 adjacent each of its ends.

A pad I6 of cellulose nlm sponge is mounted in the chamber II and the corners of the body are cut away, as indicated at I'I to prevent chang when the device is worn.

In operation, it will be apparent that the device may be readily attached to a sanitary belt by means of safety pins or other conventional means.

Liquid secretions from the organs of the wearer Will be readily received through the openings I2 to thence proceed by gravity to the cellulose lm sponge I 6 which will readily absorb the same and at the same time bear against the underside of the top Wall of the chamber II to effectively cut off air and bodily Warmth from the liquids so absorbed by the same to thus prevent to a large degree any deterioration of such liquids and thus to effectively prevent annoying odors from forming. 'Ihe coating I3 will prevent any leakage through the bottom of the body and it will be apparent that, since all of the various parts of the device are of a washable nature, the device may be easily and quickly washed with ordinary soap and water and will be thereby rendered ready for immediate re-use.

While but one `form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A device of the character described comprising a body of spongelike material having a chamber formed therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, and a supporting strap extending along the bottom of said chamber and through both ends of said body.

2. A device of the character described comprising a body of spongelike material having a chamber formed therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, a supporting strap extending along the bottom of said chamber and through both ends of said body, and an eyelet in said strap adjacent each end thereof.

3. A device of the character described cornprising a body of spongelike material having a chamber formed therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, a supporting strap extending along the bottom of said chamber and through both ends of said body, and an eyelet in said strap adjacent each end thereof, said strap being permanently affixed to the body.

A device of the character described comprising an elongated body of fabricated sponge material having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, and a longitudinally extending supporting strap embedded in said body and protruding from each end thereof, said strap being vulcanized to the bottom wall of the chamber.

A device of the character described comprising an elongated body of fabricated sponge material having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, a longitudinally extending supporting strap embedded in said body and protruding from each end thereof, said strap being vulcanized to the bottom Wall of the chamber, and a pad of cellulose film sponge mounted in the chamber below said passageway.

A device of the character described comprising an elongated body of fabricated sponge material having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, a longitudinally extending supporting strap embedded in said body and protruding from each thereof, said strap being vulcanized to the bottom Wall of the chamber, and a pad of cellulose film sponge mounted in the chamber below said passageway, said chamber having the lower portion of its Walls covered with a moisture-proof coating.

A device of the character described comprising an elongated body of fabricated sponge material having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof to said chamber, a longitudinally extending supporting strap embedded in said body and protruding from each end thereof, said strap being vulcanized to the bottom wall of the chamber1 a pad of cellulose film sponge mounted in the chamber below said passageway, and an eyelet in said strap adjacent each end thereof.

A device of the character described comprising an elongated body of fabricated sponge material having a longitudinally extending chamber therein and having passageways extending from the top thereof, to said chamber, a longitudinally extending supporting strap embedded in said body and protruding from each end thereof, said strap being vulcanized to the bottom Wall of the chamber, a pad of cellulose lm sponge mounted in the chamber below said passageway, and an eyelet in said strap adjacent each end thereof, said chamber having the lower portion of its walls covered with a moisture-proof coating.

9. The improvements in catamenial diapers herein described.
